Andy Warhol πΊπΈ Real or Fake? β’ Sunday B. Morning Print, by lee3 on Dec 28, 2015 17:24:44 GMT 1, I was a Warhol fanatic back in the day. My principal advice in the Warhol market is you are almost always 20-30% better off sourcing editioned work at auction as opposed to any dealer. You also get the added bonus of iron clad provenance in that you can put it back to the house in the future if authenticity questions arose after the fact although fakes in the Warhol print market are uncommon and easy to spot.
The sheer volume of work has led to a market that dealers source at auction and then markup at retail and because of that volume you can practically pick your image (outside of TP's and AP's) and source it at a print auction at the primary houses in the next 6 months. Of the 100k+ prints he released there are only a handful of images that have truly iconic pricing. It's the polar opposite of the Banksy print market.

Andy Warhol πΊπΈ Real or Fake? β’ Sunday B. Morning Print, by Deleted on Dec 29, 2015 13:13:09 GMT 1, Did Warhol sign and date his prints on the reverse?
Some people believe that the Warhol prices are artificially inflated by a few people who have bought up a smany Warhols as possible.
Buying to keep as a long term investment needs a lot of knowledge with all the fakes out there.
If I was spending money on Warholabilia.
I would try and get someting from people involved with Warhol and his factory, like Lou Reed memorabilia or other persons that are authentic.

Andy Warhol πΊπΈ Real or Fake? β’ Sunday B. Morning Print, by Gulosten on Dec 29, 2015 14:21:40 GMT 1, Looking into buying my first Warhol-print, but I am not familiar with his prints and where to buy them.
Any tips for galleries who sell his prints in the lower end of the price scale?
Do all prints come with COA from the AW foundation?
Best regards

Andy Warhol πΊπΈ Real or Fake? β’ Sunday B. Morning Print, by Rouen Cathedral on Dec 31, 2015 0:29:50 GMT 1, There's a gallery in Washington, D.C. That I'm on the mailing list for. They have a 'sale' on a couple warhols. I can forward it along if your are interested. They always seem to have some warhols available so it may be worth a look.

Andy Warhol πΊπΈ Real or Fake? β’ Sunday B. Morning Print, by Howard Johnson on Jan 10, 2016 1:13:10 GMT 1, 99% of Sunday B Morning prints have no collectable value as they are unofficial reproductions, but quite nice for those who just want something nice for the walls. However, The first edition of Marilyns are somewhat connected to Warhol.
The story goes that Sunday B Morning was created by a group of printers that left Warhol's factory in the late 60s to establish thier own print shop. They took the original Marilyn screens with them and produced a second Edition of the prints. These were initially unauthorized, but Warhol later gave hem his blessing and even signed a few. They then went on to print 3 more editions that were completely unauthorized.
So in other words, you have Warhols printers making a print from his screens and (eventual) blessing. That doesn't make that first edition "authentic" but many feel as though it's close enough to an official edition to find value in it.

Andy Warhol πΊπΈ Real or Fake? β’ Sunday B. Morning Print, by Love Is In The Air on Jan 15, 2016 14:22:19 GMT 1, The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao presents Shadows (1977β78) by Andy Warhol, a monumental artwork of 102 large format, silkscreened panels that reflect some of Warholβs explorations with abstraction through his signature palette of bright and cheerful hues, which characterized a large part of his work. Curator Lucia Agirre is working on the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao's presentation of Andy Warhol: Shadows, which is organized by Dia Art Foundation.
At 50 years old, Andy Warhol, the irreverent Pop Art icon, and chronicler of an era, embarked upon the production of a monumental artwork titled Shadows with the assistance of his entourage at the Factory. The Shadows panels are silkscreened canvases. To understand the radical implications of Warholβs Shadows, one must begin with the workβs form: the Shadows series was conceived as one painting in multiple parts, the final number of canvases determined by the dimensions of an exhibition space. The βshadowsβ alternate between positive and negative as they march along the walls of the gallery. (apologies if thread is in wrong place, just got sent the above press release so thought I would pass on )
Looks decent if you are a Warhol fan like me, decent reason for a weekend in sunny Spain...

There was some fantastic pieces on view all of which I had never seen before. Wish the exhibition was a bit closer to home i'd love to see it. Might have to get the book from the shop.
