It's strangely not actually covered much at all in the warhol literature. I've read that he gave them the original printing press and the inks etc, so I'm guessing (and it is just a guess) that he perhaps he did something (either accidentally or naively) which meant he had passed legal title / given permission for them to print at their will. Or maybe he'd signed a contract without having a lawyer check it or whatever whereby he'd signed the rights away for these pieces?
Surely after they'd fallen out he would have got lawyers back in new york all over it to try and stop them? The fact he couldn't stop them says to me that he must have done something (either signed away the rights or some legal cr*p whereby the physical passing of the printers signified permission) which meant he had shot himself in the foot, so-to-speak.
Any insight?

I'm not an expert. However, I think these prints, in light of the current focus on trans culture and people, will be a fantastic investment opportunity in a few years time. I actually love this series, it's way under appreciated, IMO!
Also, as long as you like them, and they are signed and numbered by Warhol...there isn't much to lose at £14,000 for two prints.
However, as for those being a "great deal"...I don't think they are a great deal. I think they are fairly priced, depending on condition (which should be excellent).

There were a group that came up in Italy recently which had varying condition issues, they will have been cleaned, but without seeing images of the ones you've been offered I can't really say if the condition is good or if indeed they are from the recent group that sold. I will say they tend to clean well as the Arches they are printed on is quite stable. |

Perhaps Im just slower than most but took me and my partner just under 2 hours from entering the tate to leaving. Probably about 20 mins of that was queuing (they line you up outside the start of the exhibition to manage capacity in the first room and then again once inside if you want to look at some articles in a cabinet). It's a great exhibition, enjoy!
