Congratulations to LA2, Kenny Scharf, Lee Quinones and Futura for getting some well deserved love from Warhol and Andy going out of way to recognize their importance in the Urban Art Movement.
I had no idea that JMB & Warhol collaborated on over 200 large scale paintings together.

I would have thought one of the big auction houses would be a pretty safe bet? There are always Warhols available at different price points.

As a general rule, I would stick with pieces that have provenance included. Try to figure out what galleries Warhol did sell through in the 80's, like maybe Martin Lawrence or other larger POP chain type galleries, then find auction pieces (not on Live auctioneers or other auction sites that don't stand behind what they're selling) with provenance. I'm not saying there aren't solid pieces sold through Liveauctioneers, there are, but if you don't feel confident in your ability to spot a fake... don't shop there.

Most Warhol prints are somewhat aged (in look of framing too), and they seldom look prefect. They've been hanging for 50-60 years in some cases. That will leave marks of time. If you find one in mint condition (from my great aunt's colletion in eastern Europe), leave it alone.

I second (third) the above. Buy from a source that will warranty their sale. If you find it's a fake later on down the line, you can file a claim for a refund. You'll have much better luck from a reputable seller/ auction house if this occurs.

Lastly, look at as many certified authentic Warhol prints as you can before you decide to pull the trigger. Being familiar with known originals will help you understand what exactly you're seeking.

In a side note: There are a few Warhol pieces on ebay right now, that include documentation from the Andy Warhol Foundation, which is selling the pieces directly to support their philanthropic efforts. These pieces will include a letter of authentication from the Warhol Foundation. Not going to get much better than this for authentication these days!

They aren't the best pieces by Warhol, and none are signed. However the cow prints and "after the party" are legit Warhol pieces...especially if they are authenticated by the Foundation.

Ebay item number 165087155262 is one of the cow prints. Priced at 20k.
