Falling Prices, by worlddomination on Mar 16, 2007 11:54:33 GMT 1, It's simple this one. ebay are clamping down on spamming and loads of people were selling stuff with a banksy thread in the title, so when all the new punters have been doing a banksy search on ebay loads of other stuff came up and they thouight f**c i'm too late with banksy but heres something else that has sold out I'll jump on the band wagon by a bit of someone elses gear and hey presto it will shoot up in value. without these links now because ebay are clamping down loads of other artists stuff ain't being seen by the new punters so thay ain't selling!

Falling Prices, by gbh on Mar 16, 2007 16:07:14 GMT 1, ebay removes them when a complaint is laid, they don't comb the auctions and remove "mis/spam - labelled" auctions of their own accord.
Thanks Banksy in the title nazi of eBay whoever you are.

Falling Prices, by finsburyparkranger on Mar 16, 2007 18:39:12 GMT 1, another interesting point that could be discussed is that for certain artists their early works will 99% of the time be worth less than works from their prime. Im not saying what part of his career Banksy might be in but just a though and a run on sentence.
I think Banksy will not follow this trend. I think the aesthetics to Banksy's work are not the key to the value. I think people that are attracted to Banksy are attracted more to the Banksy legend as a whole. Each print and piece of wall represents a page of the Banksy story. The early pieces represent the legend in its infancy, in its purest form. I think its for this reason his early pieces are the most closely guarded and highly sort after.

Neither artist really took the opportunity of the Ghetto to consolidate their position. I think that the Eelus situation is due to over supply of existing images ( prints and now the canvasses ) Hope to see more good stuff from him. D Face is different as he has recently sold a work for ยฃ14k plus VAT and has a big exhibition coming up. I have not noticed the price of his work falling.

Falling Prices, by daz205 on Mar 17, 2007 1:42:19 GMT 1, does no one else think the current drop in prices is because banksy has not done any recent stunts, exibitions or new releases, so the media interest is dropping and therefore the new customers to the market are declining?

Falling Prices, by paulah on Mar 17, 2007 11:58:26 GMT 1, no - I think WE'RE all bored waiting for the LA prints and it feels like nothing much's happening - but in the big wide world Banksy's been getting quite a lot of publicity recently - Sothebys, Andipa etc He gets mentioned a lot in the free London papers I've noticed. So I don't think that's the reason. I think I read somewhere he has a PR agency these days..

Falling Prices, by Daniel Silk on Mar 19, 2007 0:08:06 GMT 1, I get the impression that some people think the prices of some of the older Banksy print will go down a bit when the LA print are finally released I really dunt think thats gonna happen. When the Grannies came out it just made the whole market jump! and all the Ebay selling prices went up, new and old. It made everyone realize again how popular his work is, and that many more people are sat at the computers ready to pounce on the next print than say six months before. Just look at how fast Faile, D*Face and Micallef's are going! and we all know that Banksy is at the much higher level, its just we have not seen anything for a while When those LA print come out and the lot sells in a couple of minutes, everyone is gonna panic that the next few months could be the very last chance they have of ever owning a Banksy print before the prices get way too high and so? the prices go UP!

Falling Prices, by gbh on Mar 19, 2007 6:45:45 GMT 1, you'd be surprised at the amount of eBay listing nazi's around with too much time on their hands.
I listed an obey print once and put something about banksy in the title, next thing I get a message from some fuckwad telling me Obey is not banky, etc., etc.
I'm sure you can imagine what my reply was.

First, I really don't think that it is automatic...I think someone does have to actually report the listing. (could be wrong, but don't think that I am)
Second, using the "free banksy sticker" to have the word "banksy" in the title is completely legal as long as the auction actually contains the banksy postcard, sticker, whatever...
I am by no means the expert, but I've been buying/selling through ebay for years now and have dealt with everything from scams, to VERO, to keyword spamming....Ebay is a great avenue but occassionally ebay or someone else sticks a shiv in your side...

Falling Prices, by Montubu7 on Mar 20, 2007 2:12:22 GMT 1, Guys Just need to add a few corrections here.
An auction is pulled for keyword spamming only when someone reports it, ebay dont monitor listings at least not in the sense of keyword spamming.
As for the FREE Banksy sticker etc etc, its not a legal issue its an ebay policy - i could list a Micallef & spam it with free Banksy whatever & it could get pulled, someone else could do it & it may not, there has to be a significant value in the 'Free sticker/postcard' etc, generally the best way to get * TRY TO* get around it is to include a picture , preferably the 1st pic, include detail on the sticker so it adds depth to the description & hope for the best, it may still get pulled!
You can usually be sure someone else who has the same item listed has prob grassed you up, i know for a Fact uk art prints does it quite often.
Also an increase will be contributed to the fact that ebay added a 'Report this item' link to all auctions in Jan of this year, during trials last year in Au. reports spiked @ about 30% more so its obvious that reporting is technically easier to do & that there are more reports ( Plus more sellers) than this time last year - the link was added to combat copyright issues & item location abuse mainly but as its basically a faster way to report anything thats what people are doing.
You will find ebay only monitor ( at present) auctions in specific cats, including Dvds/Designer wear etc & even this is not on an auction by auction basis and via volume of sales/ยฃยฃ turnover. Its highly unlikely 'Art' is on ebays to do list as they have bigger problems to deal with.
If anyone has a major problem with auctions being removed its because someones is reporting each one, if anyone has had a problem with *large* amounts of auctions being reported its prob down to the fact the person reporting has mentioned it to there account manager who has stuck his nose in, although this is generally the tactic employed by the bigger boys and the only big boy? in the Art sense on ebay is Uk art prints who is a Tosser so lets blame him!
** As a general rule of thumb for ebay reports in general, a high % are removed within 4 hours of being reported, if your auctions pulled & somebody listed the same widget a few hours before then that probably the reporter, But you cant know for sure, but if your a betting person thats whos auctions to report, if you do 'Tit for tat'
On another note if Banksy decided to join Vero & do a Disney, everyone would be f**ked with selling!

Only the Banksy 'tribute' sellers (t-shirts, mugs, keyrings, copy canvases, etc) would be fucked. People with genuine Banksy prints or canvases would not of course be prevented from selling these.

Falling Prices, by dwight on Mar 20, 2007 6:19:55 GMT 1, Hungrig is correct, if Banksy joined vero you could still sell banksy prints. In the US (perhaps different in the UK), the first sale doctrine says that if you bought the item, then you have the right to sell it and to create your own discription and use your own pictures to do so. Not only that, but when you buy a limited edition image, you have even more rights on the international level. Lots of companies and groups abuse the vero system on ebay to eliminate competition, but it's real purpose is to keep people with fake merchandise from selling it using the legitimate name.

Falling Prices, by Montubu7 on Mar 20, 2007 9:06:10 GMT 1, "On another note if Banksy decided to join Vero & do a Disney, everyone would be f**ked with selling!"
The ansers in the statement, if Banksy joined Vero everyone selling official Banksy stuff would be fine, BUT if he wanted to ( i doubt he would) he could dictate who/if anyone is allowed to sell any Banksy stuff ( official or not) on ebay & unless you want a bit of a battle to prove your rights it woukd be hard luck. - Laz only on ebay!
Look to Loreal, Choo, Disney and literally hundereds of others who @ times dictate what products can be sold on ebay.
Some people may be aware of Clinique removing sellers auctions ( genuine product) & issuing cease & desist notices & requests for suppliers information, even when supplied with this info no auctions were reinstated & sellers were advised not to relist purely as Clinique didnt want specific products on ebay.
On another note ebays biggest problem is the Fact you can join with a False credit card quite easily & avoid paying ebay listing/final value fees ( and if you wanted rip people off big time) obs thats im not going to post that here but needless to say anytime i sell a few bits & pieces of Art ebay whistle for the fees

What was the reason for the removal?
