Anyone into Signed Photos e.t.c.?, by leehambly on Dec 15, 2007 2:16:32 GMT 1, Know what you mean,it was a book signing that i went to and i was about 3 in the que. A old lady in a wheelchair was at the front and she started crying when she went in,Ali got up and came round to her side of the table and knelt down and gave her a hug and a kiss, the whole place went quiet and then everyone was clapping hands and women were crying...cameras clicking left right & centre...surreal expierence. I read that not long ago he broguht a section on NY to a standstill as he got of his car to go to function, the traffic stopped and everyone got out of their cars and started clapping and cheering....a true living legend IMo,one of the few people alive that you can say that about .
Gotta be one of only 2 or 3 "bring the world to a standstill whenever they show up" individuals on the planet... Mandela, Ali and maybe someone else, can't think past those two? Lennon would have been, I reckon... he'd have to live on the moon if he were still around now.

Anyone into Signed Photos e.t.c.?, by todd on Dec 15, 2007 2:53:21 GMT 1, christmas 2005, was having a drink at an LA hotel and all of a sudden i noticed Ali was in the room. now i'm not really one to ask for autographs, but my dad was all gung-ho. he grabbed a menu and headed over towards him. i said, "Dad, if you're gonna get Muhammad Ali's autograph, it should be on something better than a menu...go next door to the shoe store and see if they have any boxing shoes...but go quickly" less than 5 minutes later he was back, with sweat on his brow, and a box of stark white Air Jordans...they didn't have boxing shoes...he heads over to the table where Ali and his daughter Layla and a few family members are sitting. my dad kneels down next to ali , shakes his hand, talks a bit and then hands him the box of shoes....still kneeling, my dad ends up talking to Layla for a good twenty minutes while Muhammad is doodling and signing and dating both shoes, one made out to me and one made out to my brother. they are quite special big white jordans now. inside of acrylic boxes away from the light.
that is my coolest autograph.
my second coolest is - my mom happens to live very close to Tiger Wood's mom...i used to see him there quite often.... i had a subscription to sports illustrated, and when i got the sportsman of the year copy, with tiger on the front and a bunch of white space on the side, i knew what i had to do...as things are, it took me a few years to be in the right position to be able to grab the magazine, a sharpie, and run out the door to catch Tiger, his girlfriend at the time, and their mean dogs walking down the street. with a little bit of chat and congrats on the masters victory and thanks for the amazing golf exhibitions, i asked him if he would sign the magazine cover, he looked at it and said Cool, how do you spell your name.....well, happy thanksgiving to him and him back and then it was back home...mission accomplished. fun stuff indeed.

Anyone into Signed Photos e.t.c.?, by Hugs on Dec 15, 2007 11:14:26 GMT 1, I used to go to a lot of the big Uk fights back in the day when i had some spare cash, saw Benn,Eubank,Steve collins,Kirkland laing,Lennox Lewis,Gary Mason...loads. Met Lennox Lewis when he trained in Bristol ( think it was his 1st proffesional fight??) against Gary Mason, who i'd met a few weeks before at a Eubank fight (think that was his 1st defence, against Dan Sherry in Brighton). Lewis was not well known out side Boxing circles really, certainly not a household name etc,anyways...i knew the guy that owned the Gym where he was training and he arranged for me to meet Lennox at his hotel.Duly met the fella and he is a giant of a man, very humble and took time out to have a natter, met Martin Johnson a few times as well and have to say you'd argue with neither of them.
