Surely this depends on whether you want to be fair to the buyer or the seller.
In the case of the ยฃ5000 canvas then the seller would have got approx ยฃ4000 and the buyer would have paid approx ยฃ6000 with Bonhams pocketing the stuff in between. (prices very approximate but probably not far off)
So if I was buying I'd want to pay less than the Bonhams price, not more.
