Banksy offends me, by endtimes on Oct 17, 2007 7:05:29 GMT 1, aliceuglow does have a point though...
It's all well to you guys here when it's Banksy but what if everyone thought it was ok to put their crap art on every wall in the city? Don't know about you all but I'd be pretty f**cking annoyed if Thomas Kincade decided to mural every city wall with his crap landscapes. So why does Banksy get special privilege?

TBH I wouldn't give a fuck, if someone, anyone wants to put up their art for free then it's good in my book.
In the town where I live the council recently put up their piece of "millenium" art, a clock which has a ducking stool that moves up and down on the hour. It's a bit like a cuckoo clock except it glorifies the murder of women through the ages which I just don't find at all whimsical or twee. Not only do I have to see this I had to pay for it, same as all the adverts that assail us from all directions. So if someone wants to get off their arse and share something with me, good, bad, indifferent, scrawl, tag or highly charged emotional politically motivated work of art then it's all good IMO.
As too Banksy getting special privilege, does he ? I'll bet he's considered the biggest catch in pigdom by many and as to preserving his work, well stand on the bridge by "The Lovers" for 5 mins and count the number of photographers. It's all about those tourist £'s.

Banksy offends me, by raniator on Oct 17, 2007 9:46:00 GMT 1, If you don't like it, don't look at it... and don't say it's unavoidable – you don't have to stop in your tracks, stand a stare, take a picture and phone all your friends every time you see an original somewhere.
And yeah, you can quote that in your dissertation... now f*ck off.

Banksy offends me, by Copyright on Oct 17, 2007 10:54:53 GMT 1, Although i love Banksy's work aesthetically, it is particualrly offensive and I struggle to understand how it is allowed to remain on public property around the country. Work such as the piece that was left on the Brook Young Peoples sexual health clinic in bristol shows nudity and promotes adultery and is on show to the entire public. How can this be allowed. Also, he surely takes the piss when defacing £10, exchanging the queens head for Princess Diana's head. Why does he think he is allowed to stamp his mark wherever he wants, weather it be in museums or on public property when others would be stopped by the law! Surely he is encouraging law breaking and defacing of public property!
you dont get it at all do you.
Take up Kniting

Working, indeed is very offensive. So is Starbucks coffee.

you have read this article then?
news.independent.co.uk/uk/this_britain/article1095834.ece
note , the manergers of the clinic want the artwork to stay. "Immediately, the Brook clinic's medical director, Dr Annie Evans, thanked the artist by e-mail and pledged to "look after" it. Ms Evans wrote: "The team at Brook Young People's Sexual Health Clinic are bouncing with joy".
the Brook clinic's medical director, Dr Annie Evans, wrote: "that the piece is "utterly appropriate" and "We love it and really want it to stay. We are calling it the 'Brook Banksy'."
so given this along with public opinion why do you find it offensive?

Banksy offends me, by curiousgeorge on Oct 17, 2007 16:07:34 GMT 1, Wow, that's one member who clearly thinks for themselves that won't be coming back*
I thought forums were for sharing opinions? Or are people only allowed to follow one train of thought? Posts like this show who is narrow-minded and who is not IMO
*Don't agree with O/P's sentiments
Haha Negged for suggesting people shouldnt all think the same way, ohhhh dear while this place is an excellent resource. It's damn predictable
