laz prints pics, by Grafter on Sept 21, 2007 16:59:38 GMT 1, When I 1st saw these I wasn't taken with them at all and thought they were priced far too high. Passed on setting up a tent and joining the queue to get a print and now really regret it.
They really are a grower especially the Peacekeeper and the POW release. I'm sure that in time these will be looked back on as a real highlight of Micallef's career.
It's just a shame the whole thing has been spoilt by the Baggers/Flippers and the shameless exploitation of the release. It leaves a rancid taste in the mouth.....!!!

laz prints pics, by scavos on Sept 21, 2007 17:18:03 GMT 1, I have to say it's great to see these close up to appreciate the detail. There's so much in these that I do actually like. However, (with the exception of peacekeeper) when I see the bigger picture; the image as a whole for each of the other three still does nothing for me at all. Except for his amazing use of colour. The bull heads and Uzis are just too much for me. They're just too blatant for my taste. They just look far too awkward and rather cliched. The 'God...' POW print is simply fantastic.

i agree with you billy boy, my real concern is that the shambles that was wednesday has overshadowed some really good art. all the talk is of the farcical queue and not why most of us good people went there - micallef's art.
only time will tell if the art can surpass all the bad feeling, i hope it does and do believe that in peacekeeper and god i want to be bad, he has delivered two typically classic AM pieces.

laz prints pics, by ABC on Sept 21, 2007 19:41:36 GMT 1, Micallef is a very talented painter most works are stunning but this looks rushed, If I owned the original I would want to change that back leg, if he was meant to leave the back leg as it is at least he could have got the leg in line and the same shades, for over £70k I'd want more than A level standard. IMO I feel he has tried to paint to many in a short space of time.

laz prints pics, by corblimeylimey on Sept 23, 2007 12:53:48 GMT 1, Cheers. Can you get a magnifing glass on it and see if they're printed in dots (halftone screened) Keep trying CBL! You've got me curious now.
O.K. I've almost got to the bottom of this by having a PM chat with keepingitreal who like myself works in the print industry specialising in the graphic repro area, and he has these prints (or at least one print) in hand.
They're definitly printed by www.thecurwenstudio.co.uk/ (there's an embossed stamp) and they are printed in halftone dots, so the printing plate will be made similar to standard photo litho plates, in standard printing there are around 150-175 and on occasion 200 of these halftone dots per inch, keepingitreal tells me it looks more like 200 - 300 dots per inch on these laz prints, very fine indeed.
These could have been printed useing an offset press but it wouldn't of been a standard fast machine, it's more likely to have been printed on a flat bed proof press or something similar, one colour at a time with each sheet being handled seperately by hand.
Also keepingitreal has obviously like me seen plenty of print jobs and he highly rates the quality.
If anyone has any further (particularly inside facts) information, please share it.
