waiting for banksy??? , by tomhills1 on Aug 9, 2007 18:40:57 GMT 1, anyone bored of waiting yet? anyone actually think that POW will release any more of banksy's work? or micallef's for that matter?
think again, a contact of mine (who not only can pinpoint exact releases around three days before they happen but can usually tell me which three days in advance) has told me otherwise. now i don't know this chap personally, professional basis only, and having grown tired of waiting i looked him up. he didn't have good news. according to him, LAZ will now be releasing all further prints by banksy and micallef too. he doesn't know when or where.
can't say i'm surprised by this but i am a little disappointed, i would never say never though until i hear POW and/or LAZ confirm something for certain, the former i'd guess. or they could just go and release something, not holding my breath now though.
i was also informed that a much-maligned brighton artist had also signed with LAZ and would be releasing some exlcusive work that will prove the haters wrong, once and for all. that it will totally re-invigorate the somewhat stagnant stree/stencil movement, maybe involving some serious street-work now it's this that has got me curious, i thought conor harrington but he has already released work through LAZ and has exhibited there too it think. my knowledge is not broad enough to speculate, i was told my contact is sworn to secrecy (as seems to be the way if you're in with the LAZ people), i would love to know who it could be and also perhaps why they seem to have passed go and gone all the way to mayfair?
i'm stumped

waiting for banksy??? , by dave313perry on Aug 9, 2007 18:51:15 GMT 1, Hmmm very interesting Mr Lesbian! I could throw some names into the pot but i would purely be guessing?? i guess we will have to wait and see what the future brings.
It would explain why POW seemed to be dragging the Banksy releases out.
More importantly what sort of effect could this have on Banksy, his work, his following, his popularity!?!?

regarding the Banksy news...thats just too depressing to comment on if its true..
thinking further on this can't see the LA series not being completed with PoW, but the delay does make this all questionable...
if this all goes over to Laz the prices and therefore the accessiblitly are going to completely feck up.... sigh

Bad news if it's true about POW - so my chances of getting one at a reasonable price have gone from 1/10,000 to zilch!

that was my initial thought but i don't really have too broad a knowledge of locals beyond that.
i can't imagine POW would abandon a run halfway through but some of the info i've had off this bloke is untrue. one such nugget does actually help this scenario make sense but as he swore me to secrecy with the info at the time, it now seems rude to divulge it now that said info is highly relavent
i truly hope he's wrong, maybe the payoff is this other artist? last thing he said before he hung up was "don't worry mate, everything's ok"........mmmn...........

waiting for banksy??? , by corblimeylimey on Aug 9, 2007 19:33:46 GMT 1, Having seen POWs accounts, they could be one reason for the move, POWs Total assets less liabilities was £63,013 on 30/6/05 this jumped to £391,469 by 30/6/06 (the latest accounts available) and POW made sales to Lazerides ltd amounting to £87,901. The accounting could now be getting quite tricky for them particularly if Banksy is the main money spinner and Laz has the big say so in the Banksy side of things, also bear in mind the latest accounts would have just been done for the year to 30/6/07.

waiting for banksy??? , by pw on Aug 9, 2007 19:46:22 GMT 1, from a purely legal point of view, surely POW have been contracted to release these prints for almost a year now (assuming they do contracts of some sort). these prints are obviously a big money-spinner so why would they hand it over to Laz?

We don't know the full facts, but Laz is part of POW, he maybe taking all the Banksy money anyway, what do we know?

waiting for banksy??? , by adrscib on Aug 9, 2007 20:06:49 GMT 1, i dont think its Dan Baldwin.... as POW focus on street artists... remember Dan is a diffrent type of artist.... and if not mistaken he had some form of collaboration with them in the past but they threw him out... as i have heard personally from different dealers Laz has now become an arrogant man to deal with as just because he has Banksy he think he has reach a "god" status...
i am sure he has people to monitor this board too... probably all is timed and controlled to perfection... do you think they will release a print now that the ppl spent money on neate and there is the LA show upcoming? so i dont believe a print is yet due... he is making ppl nervious to make them hungry for more... JMHO

waiting for banksy??? , by adrscib on Aug 9, 2007 20:20:57 GMT 1, but laz had a choice.... either dan or antony.... he chose antony and dumped dan! they both grew together as artistts and exhibited together.... but Laz preferred to choose Micallef i dont know for what reason... maybe potential... maybe originality in his work?
pity Dan has worked hard even more than Antony and he is not being appreciated so much.... and there are many others out there who are undervalued too...
still i believe Micallef is there to stay... saw his prints .... and got excited too.

mybe now though LAZ has the time to concentrate on DB and raising his profile? surley banksy and micallef will take care of their continued ascent, DB needs someone to build him up. must say though, i got the impression it was more of a street/stencil artist who he was on about. led to believe the streets of the south will start to bear the fruit of his work sooner rather than later, then lo and behold laz will show up with a whole load of related prints
anyone from the soouth coast have any light to shed on this???

He doesn't ONLY have Banksy. He has the patronage of the new Charles Saatchi and all that it brings with it.
All very cloak and dagger
If POW never release another Banksy or Micallef then I would be very gutted. But a lot worse things happen

yea, but Laz wouldn't have a bun fight and a hundred email to deal with.
the next batch of Banksy prints you see after LA will more than likely be small editions, 10K plus! Thats if they are coming from Laz!

waiting for banksy??? , by tomhills1 on Aug 9, 2007 20:59:34 GMT 1, how do you know LAZ isn't selling them right now? would he need to advertise, i'm sure he knows the right people
i'm more intersted in who he's got next for us, will he promote the brighton lad through lower leagues/POW before he gets promoted to the premier league/LAZ? afterall they are clearly one and the same thing.
was POW ethos (hate that word) not all about bringing affordable art to the masses, kind of hypocritical when you think of the banksy situation, no?

if Laz does sell them it would probably be for much closer to the market value of previously released work. i.e. probably around £500 for unsigned and maybe £2k - £3k for signed (or £5k knowing Laz!). therefore, I don't think there would be a bunfight since flippers will be discouraged and they would probably take weeks or even months to sell out.
of course the other side of this is that it might just push up the prices of previously released work. all speculation of course...
