Banksy spotted (back in the news), by babyford on Aug 10, 2007 23:55:25 GMT 1, At least a Forum gallery show wouldn't just be in London, it have to be around the country for all members to see. And CBL could provide photos for our American cousins. - A Banksy roadshow - now thats an idea! ;D

Banksy spotted (back in the news), by adrscib on Aug 11, 2007 0:25:26 GMT 1, thanks guys for the criticism... but at least i have managed a debate...
yes no one takes me seriously but that is in my opinion what they are doing... marketing themselves...
remmeber... laz did not have an idea of what is art... he used to sell processed chicken meat, and he has no o level in art... but he is clever and he is laughing all the way to the "banksy" with our money...
i am not trying to insinuate anything against laz, as i have no interest and its his business after all... but i recall a recent post by CBL regardng pows finances... so the proof is in the pudding.

Banksy spotted (back in the news), by speebe on Aug 11, 2007 0:26:58 GMT 1, I feel a bit cheated and by the show. This has done nothing more than put the Hospital on the map and illustrate that they've wasted a great opportunity.
Poor mounting, bad layout and many recent pieces (POW prints) rather than originals and early pieces. The few original pieces they had looked really knackard, I could have put a better show on in my bedroom with the pieces shared between me and my friends.
For what it's worth here are some pics...
Got told off for taking photos too... W@nk

Banksy spotted (back in the news), by Curley on Aug 11, 2007 8:20:55 GMT 1, I was a little disapointed with the show only 20 Banksy pieces on display , Some of the classics were missing. I bet if we all got together we could put on a better show. Imagine every possible banksy under one roof - The great man may even visit
You have to remember its not a proper banksy exhibition. It is not sactioned by Laz and yes i agree there are better framing jobs on this site.

Banksy spotted (back in the news), by Curley on Aug 11, 2007 8:29:57 GMT 1, this forum could pull off a cracking show, imagen all the originals from all the artists talked about on here that are owned by forum members You'd have to forget the free beer though. FPR and Curley would cost you more than half a dozen Neates.

Some of your points are correct in that this exhibition will move banksy further up the ladder and will bring nothing but good press which in turn increases his profile.
What you are not correct about though is the Laz connection to this particular exhibition. It has NOTHING to do with them. In fact they are really unhappy that its actually happening at all. They do not want to see their own prices pushed articfically high (like your mate Dan)

Ads dude don't get a complex I enjoy your input but listen I've been to the show and the likelihood that Laz or Banksy are even 1% involved is very very very remote....it is an average show (at best) with a couple of good pieces....this is secondary market dealers making a buck on Banksy's name, think of the man and honestly do you think he would be helping such people?

Thanks for posting the pics speebe.
This can't be the work of Banksy, in this photo you can clearly see the straight lines of overspray top and bottom from the edge of the stencil, Banksy is much more professional than that, it looks like the stencil size was too small.

Did anyone else notice these Tesco prints seem to be touching the glass (or perspex is more what it looks like in real life)
I thought that was the number one golden 'don't' of framing? Or is this using some other special method?

Banksy spotted (back in the news), by Grafter on Aug 11, 2007 17:33:39 GMT 1, I went and had a look around today. Must agree with the comments already posted. The Banksy side of the exhibition was quite poor and badly presented. To the best of my memory it consisted of:
Several POW released prints (Applause, Jack & Jill, Morons, Soup cans,)
A hanging flying copper on cut out card
A large 'Laugh Now' on plaster, which i'm sure was at the Andipa a while back.
The boy painting 'What' on a huge steel door.
A huge 'Churchil' canvas from Turf War.
A massive canvas as you go through the door, 'Are you using that chair'
Deride & Conquer, Rude Copper, Laugh Now Chimp. All small canvases.
A large 'Kate'
And I think that's it......
If you're thinking of going...be prepared to queue, It was PACKED. and don't get your camera out....there's a prowling security guard hell bent on throwing you out.
On the plus side....some of the Warhol stuff is STUNNING...!!! Particularly liked the Ingrid Bergman 'Nun' and Grace Kelly silk screens.

From what you're saying, it sounds like Warhol won.

Banksy spotted (back in the news), by speebe on Aug 11, 2007 17:56:35 GMT 1, The hanging copper was put on display with some nylon line through the pierced holes in the cardboard with nothing to stop it tearing through he card; i know it's not overly heavy but i have been stunned at the sheer niave way this was thrown up.
Some pieces had double sided tape on the floor to mark out the viewing areas... It's as though they asked a group of students to throw this together.
Not a cohesive show, not enough space... I know without a doubt that members of this forum could produce a show of much higher standard.
Some nice individual pieces but the quality of the show overall detracts from the work of both artists... the show only serves to devalue much of the work displayed.

Banksy spotted (back in the news), by Grafter on Aug 11, 2007 18:38:00 GMT 1, I honestly believe that Warhol DID win this one...!!!
Mostly because of the fact that the Banksy stuff consisted of badly presented prints that are stil being openly offered for re-sale on e-bay.
By that I mean the 'Morons' exhibited, for example, was only released a little over 4 months ago and is stil within the price range of most people on this forum. Most people reading this could probably see one by looking at their own living room wall.
IT WASN'T EVEN A SEPIA ONE.......For F*%^@ Sake.
Surely one of the reasons you go to exhibitions is to see stuff that you can't get easy access to, and will be forever beyond your reach.

Banksy spotted (back in the news), by andrewd on Aug 11, 2007 19:32:10 GMT 1, Went with the wife and kids this afternoon. Must say that there was alot more stuff at the last unofficial show, i.e Andipa. Worth a look if you're near enough ( huge 'chair' canvas, 'What' and an awesome Monkey Queen and Kate a/p were worth seeing) but not really a must see. On the other hand, five minutes down the road there was a very relaxed atmosphere in Elms Lesters. The Adam Neate show is real show stopper! Banksy -v- Adam neate? Well personally I'd go for Mr B. but Banksy-v Warhol, -v- Neate show, the latter wins hands down. What are the odds that the Hospital got some art student to do the stencil outside the show? happened just in time for the opening and slow, silly season August newspapers.

Great image- People seemed to miss it and walk straight in the gallery!!. There were also 4x Warhol Ali prints in the foyer which were awesome

Banksy spotted (back in the news), by Curley on Aug 12, 2007 7:39:08 GMT 1, My son and I went down to look at the show Friday morning and as far as getting photos it was out of the question there were signs up every where saying no film or photos to be taken and every time I tried to take some shots I was pounced upon by some bloke policing the joint. Fearing I was about to be thrown out I put my camera away. It was great to see WHAT? and also the steel door which hung next to it with the words ‘This is not a photo opportunity” however both looked completely out of context and an example of how street art does not always work on the inside and should as Banksy wants be left alone. As for the show itself? I am sorry but in my opinion it is TERRIBLE Not the best pieces on show from either artist and very little in the way of Banksy pieces . I've seen better from both artists this summer ie Sothebys and Christie's. I do realise that these pictures were from private owners and it looks as though the gallery putting on this show might have had trouble sourcing stuff. However I was pleased to see ‘Turf War’ and 'Are You Using That Chair?' For some strange reason 'Are You Using That Chair?' was placed out in amongst some random stuff nothing to do with the show, in the foyer next to the lifts. It was much larger than I had realised, in fact massive but due to the odd placing and with all the clutter around it it got lost and I didn’t didn’t really notice it, well not until I left. It was also nice to see the Flying Copper albeit hanging precariously via nylon thread from the ceiling by the window and oh my favourite Banksy the Rude Copper a small canvas which as always made me smile. I agree some of the framing was very poor both Banksy's and Warhol's also the lighting was bad and the space well small and not well used. I am not sure about the thinking behind this show I get the feeling it was no more than an advertising stunt for the place. I was told by some gallery person as I left that Banksy had done the Marilyn stencil outside somthing I was not convinced of and that Banksy had been at the preview, how she knew was anyone's guess but I am sure if he had sneaked in at the private view the night before, I know he would say it was terrible too. After the show my son Andy and I went off to Elms and it was interesting to see his reaction to the show, we then went on to Paul's show and Andy was blown away he just loves Paul's work. I was pleased he loved the 'LOVE' I have ordered and am still waiting for to go with my 'PEACE'. I had a great day Friday sneaking out of work the first day in ages spending quality time with son just he and I together. We ended up in a wine bar together discussing the 3 exhibitions and we both agree Banksy is still KING despite a terrible show which he had nothing to do with and we both agreed Banksy was the WINNER. I ended my day at POW more on that in a separate thread.
Think you were seeing things that were not there Vazie Its designated picnic area next to What Boy, there is no Photo oppurtunity in the show. however it would have been more fitting if there had been. ;D
Completely agree with the rest of the review.

I was a little disapointed with the show only 20 Banksy pieces on display , Some of the classics were missing. I bet if we all got together we could put on a better show. Banksy spotted (back in the news), by guest2 on Aug 13, 2007 8:45:29 GMT 1, Price drop.... everyone spent all their money on Adam Neate (!) and combined with the fact that it's summer and alot of people are away makes it a good time to buy.

Bang on Frankie, 99.9% of people dont have bottomless pockets and Neates certainly took a hhuge chunk from alot of people! Plus i much prefer sitting in the sun with a bud than hitting F5 every 10 mins!!
