I give up.........., by bobbyt23 on Jul 27, 2007 10:37:22 GMT 1, I heard that TLSG had received over 1000 requests to reserve a copy of SBFO? That is some going for a relitively new artist, I wonder how many of them wanted to frame the print and hang it in their home?
Judging by e-bay 8 definately didn't!!

I give up.........., by jonpud on Jul 27, 2007 10:43:32 GMT 1, I hate to admit this but you do have a point here, I love Banksy's work BUT there are prints that I love more than others, I tried (Unsuccessfully) to get a copy of Grannies when released. Grannies is my least favourite print from the LA run, BUT it would have given me the chance to swop it with someone who wanted it and had a Banksy that I wanted in exchange. Not selling for profit, not really 'flipping' in the true sense of the word BUT still means I am stopping someone who really loves the image from getting it! Yes I feel bad about it and yes many would probably look down on me for doing it but this is what the market has driven us to, there will be thousands after the next Banksy release who couldn't give 2 f**ks about the art, at least I do, and in the long run 2 Banksy fans will both end up happy with a swap deal for the print they REALLY wanted! The market has driven many people to this and in this case I dont think this kind of trade is a bad thing. A straight swap where two people get the print they want is the same as them getting it in the first place. For people who joined the hunt late like me it would be the only way I could get some of the older prints I really like. Especially at the prices most are now at. Thank you for reading my post properly and not -ing me for it, I don't consider myself a flipper at all, but like thousands of others I am just another part of the problem. I REALLY hope that Banksy has some say in the future and that he helps all those who have truely supported his art by releasing any new print runs in far larger quantities. Keep making the original canvas work for the rich Robbie Williams types, but allow more people on the street to hang a much loved piece of art in their homes! He could easily sell editions of 2000, so many more happy fans, and next to no adverse affect on the people who have spent fortunes in the secondary market as they will still own the 'early' works in smaller runs thus keeping their value?!

I give up.........., by Harveyn on Jul 27, 2007 10:58:23 GMT 1, God so many good comments I agree with!!!
Nuart - I agree trust your instincts and find new art.
Ambrosiabaptism - This will create new markets and interest in new artists
Slowmo - I think when it is obvious demand far out strips supply edition numbers should be increased. I split (70/30) to be sold at the opening night and on-line.
Manchestermike / Carlito - I agree with your sentiments but its hard not to share a new find when you are really enthused about the work.
Agentbacardi / Babyford - Its the blatant flipping that is the problem. I have no problems with people who sell on art after a period of time to free up equity to buy other art or because financial circumstance dictate that they do so. But the person who re-listed their SBFO because they had it listed as unsigned (I spotted this also) probably did not even enjoy the piece by taking it out of the tube. Anybody else who already has their print up for sale is also guilty of blatant flipping. I pm'd a forum member last night who wanted to sell a spare and I was offered it for £1700. A complete disgrace (the member was new and will probably never log in again).
Great thread.

just skimmed through all the threads and I can't see the post anywhere, maybe it's been deleted, it was there though it read like someone offering at cost as a forum favour I remember thinking fair play when you could easily profit from it.

I give up.........., by headphonesex on Jul 27, 2007 12:12:08 GMT 1, Bit of a pisser... I queued up from 5 till 7 and was two from the front when they ran out. A bit annoying but never mind....
So went to Cargo afterwards & saw Matt Small (and SheOne) working his considerable magic. Here's some pics:

That is some going for a relitively new artist, I wonder how many of them wanted to frame the print and hang it in their home?
I did - I'm gutted, really wanted one but couldn't get to London... At least I have my arofish ready & waiting in framing department.
