Flippers :(, by mcnuts on Jun 30, 2007 16:59:01 GMT 1, fair enough cbl. sort of hard to justify keeping pretty pictures on the wall when there are more pressing needs. perhaps you can purge your collection fo a few treasures and hold a couple others back. No need to take out more loans if you can sell a few things imho. My situation may change in about a year's time when my interest free status on my £30,000 of student loans changes and the jucie starts. Then I may need to think about what i can keep and what might have to leave. Until then, I'll keep my pretties!

Flippers :(, by andrewd on Jun 30, 2007 17:05:16 GMT 1, Never sell an appreciating asset ( especially one you really love ) to finance a depreciating asset ( like a car ). My missus has an old Clio going for less than a grand, it won't impress anyone but if I were you I'd get something like that and sod what anyone says about it!!! At least you can keep your pride and joys.

Flippers :(, by corblimeylimey on Jun 30, 2007 17:13:45 GMT 1, It is a dilema andrewd, at the moment I've got a 2.5 litre V6 petrol thirsty, Vauxhal Vectra which has expensive parts, and will need an expensive cam belt replacement and brakes next year. I just hope it see's me through without costing me anything more than the average 24mpg petrol costs. The replacement will need to be able to cruise motorways effortlessly and be much more economic, I don't want to spend good money after bad. I would be thinking about a diesel VW, it would hold it's value resonably well, as for Banksy prints who knows what will happen value wise in the future or in fact between now and next spring, they surely can't keep going up forever (all mine are unsigned)

Would half the members on this forum be half as interested in art and Banksy if there was not the sure fire bet that what you buy is going to go up in value?' Who actually bought the last Banksy print because they thought, 'hmmm i like that image', or thought 'best buy now before all gone and think later' or though 'hmmmm, £$££££££$£'? One thing is for sure, i think most people will buy festival ( a piece i dont like, btw) because they will be thinking hmmmm"£", i wonder what i will get for this or how much higher up the Banksy ladder will this little monster let me trade once i flog it!

Flippers :(, by numusic on Jun 30, 2007 17:56:27 GMT 1, I've been thinking VERY seriously over the last few days about the future of my Banksy collection, the thing is I've just received a large garage bill and I know my car will be good for another 9 months or so then will need some money spending on it again, it's only worth £1000 tops, so it makes sense to sell it next spring. As I've already borrowed money to clear the credit card, in order for me to get a new (second hand) car I'll need to raise around £5000. So there's the dilema, If I sold my existing 4 Banksy prints they'd raise around £3500 now, possibly even more by next spring, I'll really miss them though and I want to keep them. On the other hand I have other prints that aren't framed yet that could take their place and my car problems will be sorted out, I can't afford to take out another loan for the car which in effect will be like a loan to keep the prints I've decided to look at the situation again next spring and make any decisions then, you never know I might win a car from the Fifth Gear competitions or win the lottery in the meantime, but I'm not holding my breath.
Todays motto : Keep the Banksy's take the bus.

I bought my first Banksy (J&J) about a year ago for £500 framed, with no thought at all about future value, in fact the Art Republic sales guy was putting me off with his talk of investment as I thought he was just saying that to get rid of it and he was trying to make me happy about buying it. I bought it while on holiday in Brighton and knew nothing of Banksy prints and rising prices, in fact I wasn't sure if I'd been ripped off or not until I got home and checked it out on the web, my initial reaction was shock when I went to the POW site and saw Virgin Mary sold out for £74 (or there abouts) and thought that I had been overcharged until I checked out ebay. At least I didn't feel ripped off then.
About buying what you don't like, I won't be buying Festival but am VERY interested in Trolley Hunting and a little interested in Sale Ends. If most people are saying they're not very keen on Festival, why do think it's such a sure-fire money maker? chances are they'll be floods on the bay and the prices will stay low, who'll want to pay lots of money for the least popular Banksy to date?

that is exactly why i left the cue to give someone else a chance, i looked at the print and realised it was not for me, and the fact that my stomach was telling me it was time to go.

Flippers :(, by johnerotten on Jun 30, 2007 20:39:01 GMT 1, i second that motion. considering how fragile the art market is, it would be stupid to get caught with something you don't like after it loses significant value. oh and then there is the whole "honor" part of it that so many preach on this board. i doubt if anyone had a signed banksy in their basket they absolutely did not like, that they would not buy it and flip it down the line (maybe not immediately). Unless of course this board is full of Ghandis and Mother Theresas.
Also, i wish POW would put out a run of 2000 banksy unsigned or even more so that we could all enjoy them. as long as it wasn't a "mass production" i could care less if 10,000 other people had the same print on their walls all over the world. it would still be very limited and more of us could enjoy prints like grin reaper, or gangsta rat etc.
they could even keep their cash cow and do super limited signed editions.
this is of course if they weren't interested in raising the going rate of banksys. despite his anti establishment, anti-corporate themes in his art work, banksy sure has hell know's what he's doing when it comes to marketing himself. I mean that with the utmost respect. banksy is one of my favorite artists and i think he deserves freedom and prosperity, but this bumfight could be ended today, probably like many other wars going on right now, if the powers that be made that choice. cheers ;D

Flippers :(, by Imoy-San on Jul 1, 2007 9:11:06 GMT 1, CBL, I am in a similar situation, but my decision will have to be reached pretty soon.
Depending on how much I have to spend on my car, and the price of a canvas being offered, I will be selling the following as a job lot!
Batch 1: Judgement Day Angel Bomber 2 Friendly Fire Save My Soul. Reason: I am not sure I can complete the set or afford another Micallef. Laz has priced them out of my range. Better to quit than become frustrated. The set will not be broken up.
Batch 2: Flag - Banksy Flag Raisers 1, 2 & 3 - Borf Death & Glory - DFace Fools Gold - DFace Operation Magic Kingdom (Compete set - Posters / prints) Cauty Kwan - Amp (Complete set) Reason: I am almost done with my war theme, but the new Beejoir may change my mind....
I'll keep the forum posted.
Y P.S. If anyone knows a muso who uses drum machines - I have a couple of classics for sale. Roland TR808 and Roland TR909. Kindly pass the word round, Cheers

Here's mine ;D
(The T-shirt reads 'Destroy Capitalism')
I agree with Nu, I think it's a classic Banksy. I had all 6 LA prints to choose from, and I picked this along with Trolley Hunters. Of course, I would've bought all 6 if I had the money, but that's besides the point... I think Festival is highly underrated, even more so than Morons or Sale Ends. IMHO, of course!
