what type of member are you?, by johnas on Jun 22, 2007 19:08:06 GMT 1, lol.... not that type of member you sicko's
This is just an observation more than anything and isn't directed at anyone in particular. Can you think of any to add to the list of 'types' of members??
The Hanger - Buys works purely for the wall. No interest whatsoever in keeping prints in folders or under the bed for a rainy day. May be governed by cashflow but is likely to have a lot of self restraint and doesn't get caught up in hype.
The Addict - Buy it.... Buy it now! Probably has a very addictive/obsessive nature. Loves owning pieces and takes great pleasure in the whole process of stalking the postman, receiving the tube, putting on the white gloves, storing in folders and admiring the 'collection'. Probably hides their obsession from the loved ones in their life (secret stash of tubes in the attic is a tell tale sign!)
The Del Boy aka The Trader - A savvy wee thing but not to be confused with a flipper (see below). Buys purely to fund 1 dream purchase or to widen their own collection. Carefully monitors ebay prices and the forums, waiting for those looking for his/her goodies. Is not looking for financial gain but instead buys pieces to climb the artwork ladder
The Flipper aka The Bagger - This person likes money.... preferably someone elses. The more the better. Is not interested in the 'scene' except for the financial gains. Loves to buy cheap from source and sell on at hugely inflated prices. Low edition runs are a Flippers dream. Will monitor ebay prices and lurk on forums to watch for the 'next big thing'. can be eaily recognised by dollar signs in the eyes and a large bag over the shoulder
The Lurker - the genuine Lurker is a timid type. Would love to dive in but is scared of making a faux pas in case the negs come a flooding. Probably has clickd reply a few times, typed out a message and then not had the confidence to press 'post'. If that's you and yoour reading this, don't be scared! Press 'post', i dare you!
The N00b - The n00b is like a puppy. Full of excitment & bouncy energy. Bounds straight in and isn't scared of getting his/her feet wet. They have a keeness to learn, ask questions and get involved. They may make some faux pas but accept it as part of the learning process. They usually start theeir first introduction to the forum with a 'when will the next Banksy be released' type post. We love 'em... if we could we'd call them 'scamp' and ruffle their hair
The Cynic - Need I say more?
The Professor - The Professor is a font of knowledge. A wise old man with a white beard and spectacles. Happy to share what they know and take The N00bs under their wing. Can be identified by more stars than a McDonalds Manager, a respect score probably treble their age and an articulate use of the English language.
The Stirrer - The Stirrer LOVES a debate. They may not actually agree with what they are posting but loves to ruffle feathers. A favourite target is The N00b... The Stirrer is rarely an aggressive person but takes great joy in dusting down their wooden spoon. Identification is easy - they have callouses on their hands from where they rub them together whilst not typing and they laugh like The Count from Sesame Street
anymore for anymore?

The Bongo - Appears online only when he/she escapes from their padded cell and frees their arms from their straight jacket. Tend to have a penchant for Princess Diana, has a 'secret box' and always TALKS IN CAPITALS

what type of member are you?, by corblimeylimey on Jun 22, 2007 21:13:01 GMT 1, Mainly a Hanger but there's a small amount of Addict and Stirrer thrown in for good measure and maybe one day a pinch of Trader is bound to happen. A bit of Professor when I know what I'm talking about, and that's by no means all the time.
But you could put me down as a Shy Quiet Type That Hardly Ever Posts Who Likes a Laugh ;D

Well... there are certain notable exceptions ;D
Just seems mad sometimes buying a print which when framed costs more than a canvas... some prints a worth it though: Mr B, Mr B, Mr M and Mr N to name just four ;D

Looking forward to my Rene Gagnon canvas arriving and am on the lookout for a Candice Tripp canvas at the moment. Also, if the rumour is true about the Mantis South Africa canvas containing colour then that will be another one on the list.

I know where you're coming from mike, I've picked up a few originals recently, albeit Vinyls mainly but two canvases also, and couldn't go wrong price wise, with the vinyls being around £20 (a fraction of a cheap print + no framing costs) and the canvases cost around the same as the framing cost for one print!
