Let's just say I've been using the internet for a long long long time

Actually, the first time I stumbled across Goatse It was with someone posting "that picture" without warning in a thread on a forum such as this (but obviously not such a high class forum as this one).

There used to be a little side-industry going on of Goatse-based merchandise: cakes, hats, jewellery, etc.

Strange but true #1750943...

And I thought gm was a middle aged lady too

Not so much of the "lady", thank you

Just to clarify, my avatar was merely a very tastefully done picture of a ladies posterior with a blinking eye as the centrepiece, i don't see what all the fuss is about! ;D
