Deal of the day, by corblimeylimey on May 5, 2007 18:27:59 GMT 1, I've just bought one of those Kinsey's too, couldn't resist it, though it's going to have to wait to be framed. It cost me ยฃ34 inc delivery via Paypal, it shouldn't have any duty and VAT issues due to the cheap price ($45) ;D

Deal of the day, by RetroCanvas on May 5, 2007 18:39:52 GMT 1, Banksy's Soup Can poster from POW for a tenner is a really BIG bargain.
Get a cheap frame and mount for ยฃ20 and for just under ยฃ35 you've got yourself a nice wall space filler.
Do we all agree?

Deal of the day, by Strange Al on May 5, 2007 19:17:36 GMT 1, Curley - completely agree that the G&G show at the Tate is absolutely breathtaking. One of the most interesting exhibitions I've been to in years.
For me, their early 70s and 80s stuff is by far the best; particularly, the Dirty Words series. I like the simplicity of the black, white and red images, coupled with the shock factor of the language. It's very interesting to see the influences of street art (graf) in quite a few of their images. Plus the vast scale of their pieces has to be seen to be appreciated.
That said, only a few of their pieces since the 80s really drew me in. Most are just too vivid and too camp for my tastes. Plus, I think their newer works, which are arranged on the computer, just don't have the visual depth of their earlier pieces. Though I can see why they grab people. For those that haven't been, if you can go tomorrow - do it!
And yes, the signed show posters are an absolute bargain. Though, now that you've let the cat out of the bag on the forum, I have faith that the Ebay hordes will go clean out the Tate Shop tomorrow.

Deal of the day, by Curley on May 5, 2007 19:23:46 GMT 1, Have to agree that the early stuff was the best. But the sheer size of some of sculptures as they call them are amazing.
and as its the last day tomorrow i thought i would let the cat out of the bag. So some one could still grab a bargain. While they can
The books awesome as well but pricey, 30% off on amazon (checked already)

Deal of the day, by Strange Al on May 5, 2007 19:57:45 GMT 1, Their latest book is awesome indeed. G&G did a signing at the Tate a couple of months back and I bought a copy then. Meant waiting in line for an age - but well worth it for the personalised dedication and a chance to meet the original odd couple. They're an eccentric pair!
There were some awesome G&G signed goodies in the charity auction that Pezlow helped organise, including the book. Wonder who nabbed those???

Wow how did I miss that, probably because I spent most of my time speaking to a staff member in the shop area who said that G&G visited the show just about every day and told me a few little tales. Darn, I'll have to buy one of those G&G swear boxes, make that 2!! I've mentioned it before on the forum but there has just been shown (at the East End film festival) a film about them and thier haunts in East London. Not on general release but from the review I read in The Times it is one to see should the opportunity arise

Deal of the day, by stillborncrisps on May 6, 2007 16:58:07 GMT 1, According to the Tate website the Gilbert & George exhibition's last day is tomorrow (Monday) not today.
I sat opposite them on the tube once, and didn't even notice them for a few stops as they were sitting apart and blended in with all the other suits in the carriage. Totally freaked out when I realised who it was though. ;D

Deal of the day, by andrewd on May 8, 2007 17:09:05 GMT 1, Ha!!! Apparently the deal with the show on the telly tonight is that you can download a full set of individual panels of a Gilbert and George 'sculpture' for 48 hours after the show. I am going to give it a go! Once again, BBC1 10:35 tonight and www.bbc.co.uk/imagine
Oh and I rang the Tate about the 2 signed posters, they have lots left and should be selling them after the show ( which finished yesterday )

Deal of the day, by Octopus UK on May 8, 2007 17:21:27 GMT 1, The son of a neighbour is studying at the LSE and he lives quite close to Tate Modern (what luck!!!). I emailed him yesterday and he got me a signed copy of the two posters shown above. I won't see them until June though. Yesterday was the first time he'd been to visit the place!
