Prices definately on the up!!!, by ROLLINS on Apr 6, 2007 20:55:29 GMT 1, Looks like prices are going through the roof this week on ebay.
An unsigned Girl with Ballon @ £2099 and a signed Happey Chopper at just over £5,000.
Looks like "The Banksy Effect" has definately kicked in the last couple of weeks.
I wonder why - any answers??

Jack & Jill sold for £750 (twice) £675
Grannies sold for £500, £512
Applause sold for £589, £600, £605
Flag sold for £364, £395, £430
I Fought The Law sold for £650, £571, £531

All these prices have been pretty consistent for the last 6 months.

Prices definately on the up!!!, by Ågent ßacardi on Apr 6, 2007 22:04:39 GMT 1, I'm no economist, but here's my theory: Every time there's any publicity - whether intentional or not - there will be a price surge that follows closely behind. It could be a show/exhibition, an article in the papers or in the news, or a print release that gets people talking... people will get in to the heat of the moment. Those who have been ambivalent about buying old prints will be reminded of how much they'd want one. Also, more buzz equals more people talking about it, which equals more people becoming fans. And everybody will dive into the market together at the same time, increasing demand, and thus increasing the price.
As things cool down, more and more people would have either have already gotten the prints they want, or would've simply given up... and prices will start declining. Until the next publicity buzz, that is! More fans are added each time, which means that demand during each surge will be higher. Which, in turn, means that prices will spike higher and higher with each wave.
Sounds plausible, no?

Prices definately on the up!!!, by bonesy on Apr 7, 2007 0:40:35 GMT 1, And the next public "stunt" he pulls will give a huge spike. Even if it isnt as good as past things hes done it will get giant coverage.

Prices definately on the up!!!, by biggayal on Apr 7, 2007 18:55:43 GMT 1, Agreed with the earlier points really - the signed prints are definatley creeping up. I still cannot believe that a signed Applause is now fetching £4000+ There are some cracking unsigned prints out there for very reasonable prices....... (for Mr B anyway!)

Prices definately on the up!!!, by tadghostal on Apr 7, 2007 19:10:12 GMT 1, Agreed biggayal. Right now, I'd say many/most of the unsigned are a bargain. Applause is one of my favorites due to many details that go unnoticed on the first several viewings (which makes the print more fun to look at once you've spotted them), the great size, and the uniqueness of the image among the Banksy library. And even at 600GBP, its still not a bad price for such a cool print. Flying coppers are still only 700GBP or so, and even when the elusive Love is In the Air shows up, its rarely more than 1200. Not really cheap, but compared to the insanity of late--they're bargains. And the images are still outstanding!

Prices definately on the up!!!, by adrscib on Apr 8, 2007 11:38:35 GMT 1, in my opinion, in the long run the only value will be attached to the signed ones. in fact unsigned prints are going down in value, whilst before the difference between signed / unsigned was 2-3 times, now this gap is increasing to 3-4 times....
the value of the unsigned is just the printer stamp, in our case POW...
also we are in a crazy bubble era because the prints are being done in large editions, usually a very large edition is less than 100, but in our case of Banksy editions of 300+ are not uncommon, which I believe the reason is purely a marketing tool to raise the price of his canvases. This man is a genius and businessman!
In the very long run his prints of 300 or less will keep being priced well (like warhol prints).... but his real value will lie in the canvases.
In my opinion his prices of canvases today seems absurb but if you consider other major artists i think who has the guts to buy today will make a huge deal, as i believe his career is still in its infancy.

Prices definately on the up!!!, by manchestermike on Apr 8, 2007 13:26:07 GMT 1, a lot?? A lot??
Fucking hell it's a lot. There is no way someone has bid on this, it is the person selling bidding on their own auction. A signed hick should go for about £250-£300
Two and a half grand... don't make me laugh

Prices definately on the up!!!, by tomhills1 on Apr 8, 2007 13:34:00 GMT 1, spot on mike, the last signed hick was up for £400/£450 and i don't think it sold. this seller misunderstands the word original in the art sense too. yes it may be a print, but that differs massively from an original. and spot on again mike, no-one in a million years would bid at that price. how much does she think an un-signed is worth? going by her logic i robbed lesroy blind - sorry nick!! ;D

Prices definately on the up!!!, by biggayal on Apr 9, 2007 11:26:33 GMT 1, WOW What's the guesses on the final price then......£3250? The first one to go through e-bay does normally fetch a higher premium than those that follow it, so I'd imagine the price will level off for a while though until the next print release.......
