JD , by smashedhat on Feb 11, 2007 23:12:24 GMT 1, Got my JD back from framer It looks ace, sadly it's too heavy for the existing picture hooks so need to get drilling. Pics look sucky because I was in a rush and the light was bad, will post some good ones when it's hanging!
For those interested in the Donwood pics are at s134.photobucket.com/albums/q94/smashedhat_bucket/ - the pics don't do it justice, I can't pass it without stopping for a gawp

JD , by goffy on Feb 12, 2007 19:51:57 GMT 1, With a big print image like JD you really should have a least a 2 inch (acid free) border from the print edge to the moulding. The effect is so much better

Float mounting is usually done with linen tape that sticks the print on the back mount. The tape doesn't ruin the print, and from what my framer told me, can be easily removed with a little water.

I would usually agree but I think smashedhat's JD gets away with it as there is plenty of white space around the image already.

JD , by lesroy on Feb 15, 2007 23:20:34 GMT 1, Amazing framing jobs guys....
Mike, that frame is jujst gorgeous... it must be absolutley Huge now!! Looks the daddy though
Smashed... I love the idea of laying it on the black mount to show off the deckley-specially-edge
Dan... looks great.
This print trully needs to have its own framing thread like this as its such a collosus to frame.
What do the framers say when they see it? Do they like it? do they comment on its size, or simply rub their little hands together and say "UV glass Sir?"

Not sure of the price, I got three things framed, JD, Dan Baldwin - Politics and some photos for work, it was £360 in total so I'd imagine of that JD was about £210 - It's worth it though - the print looks amazing in the frame.
I just got it done at a local independent shop in Manchester - called In The Frame, the do all my framing, not the cheapest in the world, but they're very good

JD , by tadghostal on Feb 17, 2007 20:57:59 GMT 1, I see all these amazingly good looking prints with frames that make them pop, and then shiny glass that completely screws up the view. If you're going to spend that kind of cash for the print & framing, why not spend a few extra bucks and get museum glass? Frankly, I'd rather have museum glass and a slightly less-cool frame, as the print looks like its floating in the air instead of sitting behind some damn window.

It's FRIGGIN' expensive. Seriously. I would have done it if it were just a few extra bucks

true, I did it with a few early ones, but jeez.. more than double the cost and still not 100% UV free.. 97 or something. Normal glass 68% plus the glass in the frame 136% and half the price ! go figure
