Fake items Gallery, by HowAboutNo on Nov 21, 2006 17:56:09 GMT 1, Not fakes really (well, at all) but you all seen these "Shanks" pieces that have cropped up recently......
Item 120055240210
Ripped off from Dolk (and correct me if I am wrong, but beejoir had some stuff using the same image of the boy, but with Louis Vuitton logos running all over it? - was that "yours" beer? Or have you lifted from elsewhere and couldn't care less? Or is it you!! )
Item 120055246176
Hmmmmmmmm
And also, separate note (and this is defo not a fake!!) I know the "secret" gallery this Banksy piece is located in, cropped up a few weeks ago and just been sitting there ever since.
Item 320050458916
Will be interesting to see what it goes for.

This skanky copiest has confabulated the two, beejoirs small black child and the crown from banksy's. BIT rude IMO to accuse bee of copying.

Explease me? A bit rude? Re read my post and you will see I am saying that this person has copied the LV child image FROM Beejoir....and I am sure Bee copied the image from somewhere anyway really - there I am being rude again.
Only the same as Banksy did with Napalm, and countless others have I cant be bothered to think of....Cauty!! There you go, I bothered!!

(P/S. HowAboutNo: I crack up everytime you say 'Explease me' ;D)

hmmm, it's easily checkable through POW, I don't think all these Japanese prints should get slammed as being fake. I'm pretty sure they're not.

Hi there,
What is the giveaway that the rude copper is fake? I would love to know because the pics and description were better than most other banksy prints I see up for sale. Have any banksy prints *ever* been proven to be fake in the 4 years they have been for sale?

The problem stems from the original seller.. not the current seller. A Japanese seller Beautiful-Losers, bought a fake Canvas and 'some' backdoor prints.. the pieces were proven to be wrong, yet the seller was caught trying to sell them a few weeks later as genuine. So this kinda called into questioin the provenance of all his material. Harsh, but maybe necessary.. anyway, since then, the UK ebay buyers have generally been negative to anything out of Japan. And nope, No prints have ever been proven to be fake, but there have been a few with the same numbers etc.. either human error or backdoor prints being given numbers..

Hi Jason, I think Kal and most of the ebay and banksy forum operate on the 'better safe than sorry' model, it's in everyones best interests. But, both we've all been wropng on more than one occassion, so best bet is to track a prints provenance and satisfy your own mind as to whether it's genuine or not, people looking to sell on, tend to require watertight proof of a prints history, for others, this is not the be all and end all. Ya gotta have faith :-)

it is a shame with Beautiful-Losers that he went that way, because his reputation amongst the Shepard Fairey Obey Giant community is sterling. A treasure trove of rare, older prints in excellent condition, all of which have checked out as 100% authentic.

Yep ! agreed.. feel a bit sorry for them re Banksy, they got stung themselves.. but rather than taking the hit as most would.. they waited a while and tried to pass it off as genuine. Ebay is policed really well by the Banksy group, too well sometimes... they may have got away with it had they sold elsewhere. So now I guess it's a principle thing..
But for newcomers.. I guess it's not a problem and if buying prints that check out, then all should be fine. A lot of respectable dealers have been pulled up over the past 12months or so, which is why it's either best to trade with members you know, buy from source, or do a thorough background check on the piece. A massive amount of older prints have been traded more than once, most do not have a receipt. So best to be cautious whatever.

ahh, ok.. I think it was maybe because it came from a dodgy dealer, rether than being a dodgy print. But you never know I guess..

Fake items Gallery, by KaL976 on Nov 27, 2006 0:37:33 GMT 1, So is the rude copper 146/250 dink or pukka?
I don't know - but what Nu said about the previous seller & the fact that this print has come up before with different seller names who were also selling definate backdoors makes it look odd even if it isn't.
Interestingly the current seller has a post in the very thread discussing this print over on ebay;
peadar101 (162 ) 05/09/06 01:25 AM (#16 of 39) crazy fool. i reckon the seller is the same person as beautiful losers. the prices were the same as he was asking last time, and i tracked down a photo of the rude copper beautiful losers was selling. guess what... its the same photo as this guy is using.
- & now has it for sale
here's that listing cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110027801074&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fsearch.ebay.co.uk%3A80%2Fsearch%2Fsearch.dll%3Ffrom%3DR40%26satitle%3D110027801074%26fvi%3D1
& the recent one cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=230053108943&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:PIC&ih=013
I also don't understand why POW provinence hasn't been established yet... why would you not think as soon as the number came up someone wasn't going to say something?
weird
So yeah, dunno if it's dink, but the previous seller sells dink & the rest of the story looks bizarre doesn't it

Well done mate.. *police* 2 , all very odd. Swings the odds against this one doesn't it. I guess you could satisfy yourself that it's ok, but it'd be a risk..would be very difficult to satisfy the majority of Banksy collectors for this one methinks.
