'Banksy style' spray art appears on Highbury Vaults in Bristol

A new work of art has been unveiled on the side of a Kingsdown pub.

The picture of a graffiti artist climbing up Rapunzel's hair is attributed to Bristol street artist Nick Walker.

It appeared on the wall of the Highbury Vaults overnight last week.

The pub has been undergoing a refurbishment and the new piece – reminiscent of a Banksy work on a building near the bottom of Park Street – had been kept under wraps until yesterday.

It has already been drawing in extra customers who have been taking a look to see if it was a new work by the now world-famous Bristol guerrilla artist.


Manager, Bradd Francis, said he knew nothing of the art work until he spotted it on the side of his pub.

But he believes it is in keeping with the Highbury Vaults and hopes the brewery will be happy to keep it.

He said: "It's very in keeping with what we have been trying to do with the pub and I have decided to keep it, although it is not my final decision.

"It's quirky and different, which is what I've always done here in the 14 years."

Among the additions Mr Francis has made to the Highbury Vaults is a train set running inside and sculptures in the garden.

He said he has met Nick Walker before, and knows of his work but had no idea one was likely to appear on the side of his pub.
