Surely it wouldn't be funny then? I can't think of too many Banksy's without an element of humour in them.

New Banksy, by trowel on Oct 2, 2007 22:00:45 GMT 1, It's brilliant, really nice to see our man back in action yet again, the last few months have really been good on the street front. Cor blimey, it's the famous CBL off of the BBC Bristol Have Your Say section - clowns to the left of you, jokers to the right!

i should think he had help - imagine climbing onto that roof with a load of cans of spray paint and larger than lifesize stencils.
i'm gonna say 10-15 minutes. start to the fin.

The stencils probably cut into A1/ A0 size pieces of card, so he could easily do it in his todd. Should be in and out in 5 mins

Blimey, as fast as that. I imagined it would take half an hour. Still new to this sort of art so thanks for the info.

New Banksy, by dave313perry on Oct 3, 2007 20:10:57 GMT 1, From my experience i would think it would take more like half an hour in total - to apply the different layers/colours - ensure all pieces aligned etc... There are also a fair few pieces and bits of detail that would make the stencil quite flimsy, meaning they would have to be carefully placed, depending on the thickness of the car/paper used...
Get out there and give it ago, you will soon see!!!!

New Banksy, by BK83 on Oct 3, 2007 21:53:28 GMT 1, it's 5 colors and fucking huge. it would've taken a little more than five minutes, cashman. I would assume the Banksy team (let's say 3 people maybe 2, but def no more than 4) propped up some sort of barrier to block view from the street between the two buildings up there and did it as fast as they could 3 people could get that done in 10-15, 20 max.

New Banksy, by reados on Oct 3, 2007 22:46:28 GMT 1, depending on the thickness of the card/paper used... <offtopic-ish> would you say stencils are usually cut from card then, wondering cause I've bought a few sheets of clear acetate to try some stuff out, I thought card would just soak up paint (esp over repeated use) and not be so clear edged?
i use laminated paper as recomended by www.stencilrevolution.com/ which has a similar effect on the paint, you need to be careful as it can bleed under the acetate if the paints to thick or the previous coat (if using multi layered stencils) is not dry.

Actually, with repeated use, your card stencils will get stronger. the spraypaint keeps building on itself when it drys and gives the stencil its strength for longevity. Acetate is very amatuer. it's too flimsy -- great for people who don't know what they're doing, though!. steer clear of the acetate and just get yourself some good old canford card anywhere from 120-300 g/sm.
