Show us Your own Artwork ๐จ, by Deleted on Apr 24, 2013 9:07:38 GMT 1, hi i was hoping someone could hope me out. i was wondering how trustocorp/germizm create their images? do they use photoshop and edit a photo and if yes how? or are they made with no reference photo? does anyone have any links to tutorials that i can look at thanks in advance huck Ask the guy themselves, you'll realise that some will reply and share their knowledge, others will ignore your request. Very useful to find out if are good guys; trash the others !
I guess most images are images found on the web or already existing images. Many artists do this; but clever artists will search for CC0 or public domains picture (before 1933) (for example you can find plenty of old comics images online on specific websites).
Then I presume most of them do work digitally on image (fix background, add layers, etc.) and then they print the image. Many will finish the work on PC and print a large format of the image (or even better all layers individually) to be cut immediately, others wil print small version and will redo the image by hand drawing on mylar paper or carboard paper to be cut.
As for doing the images, best is to use Photoshop (no need for latest version, you can (Removed) an old version) and find out what you want exactly as there are basically different technics.
A/ More cutout style - Then photoshop has a "Cut Out" filters; you can do this in a click. For more advanced stuff, you can also use the color separation method (using color picker and creating new layer for each color)
B/ More stamp or stencil like - Easiest and straight method, go to image adjustment and choose "Posterize" and select the number of color you want. Experience with both "Posterize" and "Cut OUt" to learn the difference between the two
C/ The outline style - This is the most difficult to do but there is a nice tutorial here on how to have an outline image of a photo - - the trick is to make copy of original layer, desaturate it; turn it "Color Dodge" and add blur. It works !
As for me, once I have the final image (let's say a 5 color image), I isolate each color on an individual layer. Then I print each layer individually (on same printer with same settings) and cut. By the way, I am not an artist, just hobbyist - portfotolio.net/drugzilla

Show us Your own Artwork ๐จ, by thelittlesthobo on Jun 25, 2013 4:11:37 GMT 1, I think this next question may have been discussed before, maybe in this thread or 'the ยฃ50 art' thread.........cant remember now........but I would be interested to know where people think the line is drawn between professional and amateur artists??
I'll give an example - my mother paints and draws frequently, detailed pencil, watercolour, acrylic and oil paintings. She is good, she has skills. She paints or draws probably once a week, but then either puts the artwork to one side, or paints over it and starts again. She does not sell or do anything with her works even though she could. And as good as she is I would not consider her to be a professional artist (sorry mum).
And yet I have seen people put some acrylic on a canvas, then spread the acrylic over the canvas surface with a spatula to make a messy (abstract) splodge and then sell that for ยฃ500. In fact they sell lots of them, they are considered professional artists and appear in galleries even though they have no real skill as an artist.
What if somebody had a web site and sold art frequently, but had worked independently and never had any work in a gallery, never had any work on public display. Would they be considered professional??
Anyway, just curious as to what others think, and how they see the difference between professional or amateur??
