Show us Your own Artwork π¨, by Lroy on Jan 6, 2015 7:39:02 GMT 1, Have you had shows for your work, Lroy? yes , when I was in Paris ... In galleries, I sold some, not bad :-) But you know It was not the same period for publicity : no facebook , no web, no Twitter ... No PR est It was very hard to find galleries And I was ( I am still) a lazy guy ( not to paint but to show my work ) The only gallery that I ve been to show my work, was The Galerie Maeght ( they like it but it was not their job to promote or produce young and unknown artists ) , the best one in contemporary art ( Kandinsky etc etc ) thank you all ;-)

Definitely learnt things for next time though. I realised you don't need to cut out all the edges of you are layering paint over the top. If that makes sense haha.

Show us Your own Artwork π¨, by banana-fana-fo-fadra on Jan 8, 2015 1:20:55 GMT 1, this was my first attempt at a (completely cheating, from a photo of my cat norman drinking water) stencil that my husband cut out with his cnc machine.
i1380.photobucket.com/albums/ah185/adramcgee/Photo-7_zps5badfcce.jpg
and this was my first attempt at using spray paintβ¦once it was finished i was quite disappointed and realized the look i was going for would require a lot more detail but the idea is from my favorite book rant: an oral biography of buster casey by chuck palahniuk, characters participate in party crashing which is driving around and crashing into other cars with a specific themeβ¦like cars decorated for christmas, "just married", etcβ¦

Show us Your own Artwork π¨, by Opie on Jan 8, 2015 20:53:34 GMT 1, If you have a look at my post a couple of posts up (stencil of keith - before I painted it) you can see some crosses cut out. Those are the registration marks. They are cut in exactly the same place on each layer.
I put tape under those crosses and then paint the first layer. Once you remove the first stencil, the crosses will be left in situ on the tape. You then use those to line up each other layer.
I'm not sure if I've explained that properly but if you need further help/explanations, please feel free to shout

Show us Your own Artwork π¨, by Opie on Jan 8, 2015 23:30:37 GMT 1, I use 250gsm card at the moment although I do prefer slightly thinner. You can use ordinary printer paper, but the stencil won't last as long (if you plan to use it multiple times) and it won't be as strong in the first instance.
I used to use little objects to weigh down my stencils until I found repositional spray adhesive. It just saves on any unwanted bleed through. (But if I'm 'out and about', I just use my hand to press the stencil to the surface).

Show us Your own Artwork π¨, by Deleted on Jan 9, 2015 2:23:51 GMT 1, Fed, and other stencil pros...what's the best method for ensuring your layers line up perfectly? You mentioned registration marks, can you explain how to best do this? Cheers I put little squares in 2 corners of my stencils - the same spot for each layer. Then, when I'm spraying, I put some painters tape down and spray over those corners... that way you can see where the stencils need to be put to line up, and you can peel off the tape afterwards.
I've tried to use just about every spray adhesive there is, and finally found one that I like.. it sticks, but not too much, and doesn't leave a residue. it's a little pricer than the brands the "big box" stores carry around here, but IMO it works wayyy better and is worth the extra couple of bucks. it's this one: www.stencilease.com/db/display.asp?input=1062&mkwid=ROnvwLen&pcrid=44299579339&gclid=Cj0KEQiA8rilBRDZu_G8hszXraoBEiQABlB9Y48dOmDPNKVeGumiaWY3hKjF7AXdBIb8W0mSlCabLTcaAsXS8P8HAQ
also - I use bolts and washers to weigh down the stencil, as well as using a thin wooden stick to push down the stencil when doing any fine details that are too small for the bolts and washers.
for knives, I use just a plain old Xacto, though for stencils that I know I want to re-use a bunch, and for images that don't have a lot of fine work, I make stencils on sheets of thin plastic/acetate, and use a heat tool that burns through the plastic. something like this: www.overstock.com/Crafts-Sewing/Jewelry-Tools/20203/subcat.html?gclid=Cj0KEQiA8rilBRDZu_G8hszXraoBEiQABlB9YwZbfZM-DvNk5es8i0Nk3bGU7AxHdRwlj1cNJxJ8eNYaAl_h8P8HAQ&featuredproduct=7526785&featuredoption=10340277&cid=202290&kid=9553000357392&track=pspla&ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=14963922-000-000&ef_id=VG-56wAAAPGZuK-B:20150109012559:s
I use Montana Gold because of the low pressure, but mostly because that's the only brand my local art shop carries last time I was down in the city, I went to Dick Blick's and almost fainted when I saw the different brands they carry. I really want to try the MTN brand. Stay away from Liquitex.. hate it!
Also, try to get paint markers that match the color of the spray paint you're going to use... comes in handy to fix small imperfections, aka f**k ups
