A Perfect Vacuum - Jeremy Geddes, by des77 on May 30, 2011 12:10:44 GMT 1, I think he's more of a long term buy than a quick flip. People would do well to hang on to these for a few years.
People would do well to just buy what they like.

A Perfect Vacuum - Jeremy Geddes, by Deleted on May 30, 2011 16:22:36 GMT 1, Just dont like it JV, also seems to be just another forum hypefest release, i suppose some will be offered on here soon as "Need to pay gas bill", "Mum doesnt like it", "Sat in a folder", "Cant afford framing" etc, plus the ones already on ebay and also the ones which will be offered privately via PMs with instructions to be kept hush hush. Maybe i shouldnt have commented saying i didnt like it as on reflection thats a poor posting but i did so its done now.
What don't you like about the work Wiz ? curious, as it speaks to me on so many levels.

Level 1. It doesnt do anything for me. Level 2. That Dove might get hurt. Level 3. Girl has been photoshop added (shes heading nowhere and is out of all proportion with room). Level 4. If im wrong about level 3 i dont really care. Level 5. I dont like boarded ceilings. Level 6. I dont like it, it may be artistically brilliant to you and crafted to perfection but i find it dull and boring to look at. Level 7. Cheap enough though granted. Level 8. Ta.

I know no one cares but my opinion but here it is, this guy has crazy talent. He is a great painter but I'm with Wiz, it doesn't really do it for me. Cool to look at it once or twice but I don't think it is something I want to live with. No disrespect to the artist.
I think the physics are kind of off and that bugs me. Also I'm not crazy about the photo realistic stuff. If you like that stuff there are so many other brilliant artists out there. I think a lot of people have been spending too much time looking at very simple art like Eine and most other urban artists and now see this with all the detail etc. and are temporarily blown away. I think the thrill will wear off for a lot of people once they live with it for a while. Hope I'm wrong and everyone who bought them really love them but I suspect there will be lots for sale in the not too distant future.

A Perfect Vacuum - Jeremy Geddes, by hlarmy on May 30, 2011 19:20:08 GMT 1, It's art, it's subjective. Some will like it, some won't. I like the fact Wiz and others don't like it as it gave me a better chance of getting it. For me, two points (1) I liked the image and assumed it was a photo rather than a painting; in fact I really like the image and have returned to look at it a number of times since, something I rarely do, especially with urban art as very few artists have the ability to do that with me (2) at 152 squid, it was what I call a no brainer as it'll never sell for less than this, especially if his originals are now higher than 10k. If I decide it's crap when it arrives or I can't afford to frame it because it's f**king huge, then I'll sell it at cost to a fellow collector who missed out (and make their day) or bang it on eBay and sell it for more than I paid. No brainer

No question, a great value if you like it and low risk buy even if you are not sure or plan to flip it. Just not my cup of tea. But who knows maybe it will grow on me. My favorite painting of his is The Street. Not sure why, I just like it more.

Like I said it isn't really my thing so I'm not up on names but there are many at just about any museum. I'm sure others can throw some names out. In terms of Urban art I think Boxi is killing it. Edgar Muller and EVOL are both crazy. Not the same subject matter but as talented IMO. But I was thinking about more traditional painters when I wrote that. I just don't have names because that stuff doesn't interest me. I appreciate the skill and talent, but not my thing. And don't get me wrong I do like Jeremy Geddes work, it just isn't my favorite. Maybe because I don't understand his work well enough.

An artist he reminds me of is Graeme Wilcox.
There are a few people like Jeremy but I do think he brings a slightly different perpective than most people I have seen. With a bit of luck the other 99 people on the list wont bite when his show opens!

You lot make me laugh. I'm convinced some of you think the entire art world revolves around you & this forum.

Not really, its just a forum and is about as important in reality as you and your opinons are ie not at all.

A Perfect Vacuum - Jeremy Geddes, by Gentle Mental on May 31, 2011 9:41:53 GMT 1, really... skulls and bones and nose rings and the remaking/collaging cartoons, old lichtenstein or warhol images to question "authorship" whatnot feels like we're running around in circles.
Which is why Geddes with his mad old master skills and pop/graphic novel sensibilities is so refreshing.

Exactly, you can tell half of what is being released in this scene even before you have had a chance to read the PDF.... 5 years of generic artwork. In a time of artists 'banging out' 500 stencils to sell, I think its refreshing that an artist decides to actually put some graft into his work.
Everything in the world in terms of fashion goes full circle, so as tongue in cheek the above comment may be... ive pretty much had my fill of witty mono colored one liners and am ready to appreciate real skill and thought process.

Check out Tony Curanaj (AKA SUB) a famed graf artist turned painter
Mind blowing.

A Perfect Vacuum - Jeremy Geddes, by des77 on May 31, 2011 13:31:03 GMT 1, Funny enough I started researching curanaj a few months back, with the intentions of eventually buying a piece of his work. Im in no rush, just enjoying looking at art that has my attention for longer than 5 minutes. Its easy to make 'theory's' about what a street piece means in order to validate it, work by an artist with skills like this just speaks for its self.

Spot on ! the great thing is how this develops, how people's taste develops and grows and how open this scene really is when it comes to embracing newcomers with real skill and insight into 21st Century living. Liking stencil art, street art, whatever.. it's a great first step..a door opener rather than a scene stealer. People eventually moved on from Eelus's "Chewbarber" and discovered Os Gemeos, moved on from D's Pop references and found Barry McGee and Beautiful Losers..on from dated 80's graff to Jose Parla and the like. Geddes is just the latest and for me, the best of an interesting bunch tackling urban issues.. these guys are really creating and reflecting on contemporary urban culture rather than just simply recycling 60's Pop and some early 2000's idea of what street art should be.. Karaoke culture. Give me Geddes anyday.
IMHO of course.
really... skulls and bones and nose rings and the remaking/collaging cartoons, old lichtenstein or warhol images to question "authorship" whatnot feels like we're running around in circles.
