Banksy • Tesco Petrol Bomb Poster, by irl1 on Oct 30, 2020 18:18:37 GMT 1, Hiya I don't have one but tried to buy one recently on here and secured one from a very trusted source. Once received it was clearly fake. The seller did refund me and I returned it. The reason for this message is to try and help and find out if he is trying to sell it again. I have lots of images of the fake and a real one. It had the event flyer with it. I don't want to "out" them in case it was a genuine mistake, although I don't believe so. So if anyone offers you one with the initials N C then I'd be very cautious. Cheers Jamie You should put up a picture of the fake one and the flyer

Banksy • Tesco Petrol Bomb Poster, by tab1 on Oct 30, 2020 19:19:28 GMT 1, When they were first selling after the release At £50-£100 most people did not send the flyers as people were noT so obsessed With flyers and cards , came in a thin small tube , with tight plastic sleeve then about 5 -6 years ago there were a lot of fakes with the flyers on eBay around £150 Obviously as they had the cards most people would assume they were genuine

I don’t recall there being a tube. Mine were rolled up together and put in a clear plastic bag/sleeve.

Mine has a load of stuff from the day including Tesco stickers etc. Some people got badges. The problem is when people were buying for £300 there were no fakes around and now there are loads 😕

Banksy • Tesco Petrol Bomb Poster, by jp on Oct 30, 2020 21:52:52 GMT 1, I recently bought a petrol from what I thought was a good source. When I received it I was 99% sure it was fake and have returned it for a refund. I used this thread as a way to fact check against images of the real one at the book fair Pictures of the book fair versionI think there are lots of issues with the most obvious being the damaged Tesco logo. Other include, overal dark, filled in smoke, Moire pattern when examined under a eyeglass, printed dot on the white border from a previous scan? I thought I'd post the pictures of mine to seek opinion and maybe help others spot a fake. Who was the "good source" that turned out to be a bad source?

Banksy • Tesco Petrol Bomb Poster, by jamieb on Oct 30, 2020 22:57:44 GMT 1, Apologies to the OP, I wasn’t trying to derail the thread. I made a schoolboy error and thought I was sending a private message to give a heads up.
I’ve had multiple PMs from members who have bought from the person I was referring to and have also confirmed his username. I do not know if they are all fake. But it is of concern especially given his profession and standing.

I would think it is a longshot that a person who has sold you a fake has then sold multiples of the same print but they would all be legitimate.
If anyone has multiples of real ones, then surely they would easily spot a fake amongst them. Whoever has contacted you should send you an image of theirs, but I would be very surprised if the same person hasn't been knowingly selling fakes.

Nick Nick, where would you get provenance for this ? genuine question, I have one which was bought by a pal of mine and his mrs back in 201X, which im considering selling, i dont want to give away too much info here for obvious reasons, what would be legitimate provenance
or can anyone else answer this as im stumped about it ?
i also have a heart noose (red) for sale if your interested :-)

As for provenance I’m thinking a first hand source, primarily. Someone who was there in person at the time, of was acquired from someone who was there.

Banksy • Tesco Petrol Bomb Poster, by floubi on Nov 25, 2020 7:41:23 GMT 1, When those were originaly sold, I immediatly bought one on the bay. It was guenuine but it arrives totally damaged. The seller sent it in a square tube he bought at the post office, that arrived totally smashed (it gives a "certain style" to the print, I kept it) I immediatly bought another one , and it was a fake one. They started doing fake ones just after a few days of the release. Main difference beside what is already said above, is the paper and type of impression. Real ones are on a quite thick paper and kind of brilliant , like most of showcards.

I bought one to a guy with a family ( we are friends on FCBK now ) , the day or the day after the launch earlier the morning. But I paid the price ( guys from Brizzle have had a great gift from Banksy : for 5 pounds each, they were allowed to buy 3 or 5, no 3 I think - and more if you have family ), around 200 or 250 or less ! ...
Anyway, I am sure to got a real one, in the plastic bag, mint etc etc..
The one you are showing Jamie is really brown lol !
I don't know how it must cost now...

Banksy • Tesco Petrol Bomb Poster, by jamieb on Nov 25, 2020 14:39:14 GMT 1, Mine was a very obvious fake due to label having damage.
But having spoken with a lot of members there seems to be a lot of fakes out there.
Unless the label is a good bright blue, the bottle bright and the smoke has lots of detail then it's a fake - see image, judging by the image of the one Tate sold yesterday then that was possibly a fake too?

Banksy • Tesco Petrol Bomb Poster, by jamieb on Nov 25, 2020 14:50:43 GMT 1, Any images from the actual time reporting the actual posters are very bright - all the dark ones are fake.
There aren't 2 versions. There were 2000 printed, there is now way there could be that much colour variation in such a short litho run, a press will rattle through 2,000 in a few minutes. Probably printed 2 up and the guillotined and packed, so only 1,000 sheets through the press.

Banksy • Tesco Petrol Bomb Poster, by jamieb on Nov 25, 2020 14:56:29 GMT 1, I would say that is real IMHO.
It's just a little bit of an underexposed photo which is not the same as dark printing.
The blue is still bright and the smoke has the details.
As a designer of 25+ years it's all very obvious to me but I can see why so many buy fakes or even why auction houses have no clue either and sell them.
I'm just surprised the fakes are poor, if had done it, I would do a way better job of getting the colours right.

Well, I was happy to get a Banksy then, but 1200 euros...
