Banksy • Tesco Petrol Bomb Poster, by Wanchope on Dec 9, 2020 1:07:08 GMT 1, Sorry but you can’t stick up for Tate in any shape or form. You can find these Warhol screen prints all over ebay and at £1650! I know as I was looking at them and then wondering how Tate would sell them at 5-10k! Thank god I didn’t go for one! It doesn’t take a genius to work out they are fakes and asking a few members on here when I was contemplating/questioning pricing and authenticity they completely agreed. But because they have bought and sold through this so called auction house we should give them the benefit of the doubt? WTAF! No no no, petrol bombs, Warhol’s and god knows what else time and time again. They are supposed to be professionals and running a legitimate auction house? Mark my words this place will be closed down soon and good riddance! Taking good peoples’ money and they totally know. Stop buying! I imagine the ones saying they wouldn’t knowingly sell fakes are people that sell through them too right? What a joke

Banksy • Tesco Petrol Bomb Poster, by tab1 on Dec 9, 2020 2:09:04 GMT 1, A new member with sense . How many gdp posters items were sold through tate ? With vigilance lacking in the assesment of the firebomb posters it is plausible the same lack of assesment was shown towards the gdp posters . The average buyer when conducting business with an auction house naturally assumes all is above board and trust is instilled in the transaction And this is a key point. A prospective buyer can go to ebay, a forum or Facebook etc. and buy an item with the associated risks. Or can pay, a not insignificant premium to buy from an Auction house or Gallery with expectation that with that premium comes the trust that the item is indeed genuine and that they are indeed experts in the field.

Will be interesting to see their audit trail if it’s the same seller on the Warhol’s - I would imagine the Police should be notified at this point

Banksy • Tesco Petrol Bomb Poster, by orenic on Dec 9, 2020 9:30:40 GMT 1, All I will say is this: The "Warhols" they are selling as "printer's proofs" are anything but, they have been printed recently, and the source is well known. It has been widely discussed here and in the US, and I know for a fact that a number of people have raised this issue.
Are these being made out of Florida ?

Banksy • Tesco Petrol Bomb Poster, by jamieb on Dec 9, 2020 10:24:59 GMT 1, The differences between the genuine and moody PB posters have been shared here but are there obvious differences on the fake Warhol ones that someone could share. I am not talking about the Warhol posters, I'm talking about the major image screenprints with a fake RJS blindstamp and fake rubberstamps on the back. Are these the some of the ones you are referring to?
screenprint in colours on Lenox Museum Board, un-signed and un-numbered test print, aside from the main edition of 200, published by Ronald Feldman Fine Arts, Inc., New York, stamped with the Publishers And Artist's Copyright stamp verso; sheet: 96.5 x 96.5cm

if they’re not and this is the actual item for sale then it’s obviously not that bright, can understand them giving a fuck you to the forum in light of this thread, it’s one reaction at least, but it’s also a fuck you to the law/police which never ends well..

Yes they come out of Florida. Yes they are 100% fake and have 0 to do with Andy Warhol nor his printer Rupert Jasen Smith and yes TW have been told they are wrong, by collectors and dealers alike. Make of this what you will but it’s pretty clear they don’t care until they get caught out.

Banksy • Tesco Petrol Bomb Poster, by rachel1984 on Dec 12, 2020 11:49:22 GMT 1, Hi all, first time poster. Huge thanks for those who started the thread and everyone who has shared info. We (husband and I) received an email from Tate on the 5th of this month, informing us the Banksy Petrol Bomb print we bought in Nov 2019 may be fake and asking us to send it back in. Looking at the pics in this thread, it doesn’t look like ours is authentic. We have responded to the email but have yet to hear back; we’ll wait a few more days before re-querying. We’re really disappointed 😞. On a happier note, I am getting a pure evil “I am a unicorn” print for Xmas!

Banksy • Tesco Petrol Bomb Poster, by jamieb on Dec 12, 2020 13:28:12 GMT 1, So the one sold in November 2019 for £875 and the one last week for £4,375.
That's a tough pill to swallow for rachel1984 after a refund.
Most likely will never been able to own one now after having already bought one from an auction house to find out it's not worth the paper it's printed on.
Would be much better if they were just replaced with genuine ones

As stated before the Petrol Bomb in this sale came with rock tight provenance from Jo Brooks. It was not a stock image used it was an image of the actual print. The consigner of the piece actually re stated the provenance here as there was someone who still didn’t believe it was genuine.
As I also stated earlier in the week our energy was being directed at the sale we had on which finished on Wednesday.
Now we are post sale resolving this is our focus. Not all buyers have responded so we will be contacting those still to respond.
As we’ve stated before and have shown here, we are fully willing and prepared to refund any buyer if their purchase is proven not to be authentic.

I suppose it would be no different if it was worth £4K back then but was now only worth £800. You’d like to think they’d be some sort of insurance for this situation.

And what about the allegation that you are selling fake Warhols?
If posters slip through your "quality control" what about any other art works in general?
Has nobody send this thread here to any news reporter? There is enough potential for big story.
Has any of the buyers contacted the Police yet? There is enough evidence that they did this for years and still do it.
There is much more under the surface, I am sure..
of course they can claim to be using a stock image, which is likely. if they’re not and this is the actual item for sale then it’s obviously not that bright, can understand them giving a fuck you to the forum in light of this thread, it’s one reaction at least, but it’s also a fuck you to the law/police which never ends well..
