Banksy • Tesco Petrol Bomb Poster, by dreadware on Dec 12, 2020 19:35:27 GMT 1, I’d be genuinely pissed off being refunded the money paid a year ago knowing I couldn’t own one now they sell at £4K. I suppose it would be no different if it was worth £4K back then but was now only worth £800. You’d like to think they’d be some sort of insurance for this situation. imagine how i feel now that i’ve actually thought about it? i paid £650 in fall/winter 2018, my PB today would sell instantly at 5x the price today, i effectively lost thousands of pounds/dollars, n my, like all our money, was used over the years 2 buy real banksy n other real art sold side by side with fakes, at record prices recently.... the more i c this thread n the more i c other suspected fakes being sold the more it honestly bothers me.... also find it extremely telling that not 1 word of response from anybody there at TW on the other accusations of fakes mentioned above.... r they refunding all warhol buyers as well? this time of year i always donate, give away, feed homeless ppl, n try n stay positive n thankful 4 all i have, but this whole situation is bothering me more than i thought it would.... n now that ppl r being refunded cost, n it’s finally sunk in how much we all really lost, i feel cheated n played, cause no fkn way these ppl, living in UK n banksy homeland, didn’t c, handle, sell, real PB’s at 1 point, n then 2 c, handle, sell fakes, ur saying u “didn’t know”? from auction house 2 private sales, not once or twice but verifiable years of selling bogus prints, u (nick clark n tate ward) have literally stollen tens of thousands, more likely, hundreds of thousands of pounds from ppl all over the world.... merry fkn christmas.
I was following this thread and saw a lot of pissed off people and many that got scammed, but no one actually pressed any charges,or called the press or the police...just people complaining

Banksy • Tesco Petrol Bomb Poster, by tab1 on Dec 12, 2020 20:38:45 GMT 1, Its not worthwhile investigating as you have been refunded ? What about all the members of the public that have purchased and are not aware of this thread? An investigation will lead to full transparency and ends the conspiracy theories you mention and rumours which annoy you www.met.police.uk/ro/report/fo/fraud/These have been soLd over years and could run into hundreds of thousands in profits , An investigation would clear the auction house by their accounts and lead to the source that may have used many other channels to sell which are unknown presently thus other buyers unaware they have purchased fakes . If op had the same thoughts and not posted here as he was happy with his refund would you or others here been refunded ? Few of those refunded may be less forward to display true thoughts as awaiting refunds or may have benifited as sold items with the auction house . Other members posts have prompted the owners reply If a private individual / member were selling these for years the forum would be up in arms , would expect an auction house to be more vigilant than a private seller and in this scenario it is more damning the auction house has let this occur for years , buyers have an assumed trust when dealing with auction houses These have been sold for years at vast profits , even years ago there were mentions of fakes around so more thorough checks should of been in place , no excuses just going round in circles , people refunded now realising the amounts lost and not being able to purchase genuine items at today’s prices

Banksy • Tesco Petrol Bomb Poster, by mojo on Dec 12, 2020 20:52:02 GMT 1, Surely the auction house should be offering like for like replacement? As others have said the value of the poster had it have been genuine is significantly more expensive to acquire at todays prices. Therefore the auction house, in my opinion, should now be sourcing genuine replacement posters for their clients at todays prices or alternatively at least be offering a credit to the value of the poster from the day it was discovered they'd been selling fakes. I would also be calling my insurance company as buyers are often protected against fraud (although that would require a police crime number) or if purchased on a credit card you could be protected? We all make mistakes from time to time however you generally end up paying for them, that's life. I would be extremely cautious buying unauthenticated stuff, you need to authenticate the person you are buying from more so than what you are actually buying.

Banksy • Tesco Petrol Bomb Poster, by Terry Fuckwitt on Dec 12, 2020 21:23:16 GMT 1, I expect a lot of the buyers that paid £700 for these fakes, have now also sold them on at todays prices for big money to unsuspecting buyers. So what happens there? They certainly won't be contacting them to tell them what happened will they?

Banksy • Tesco Petrol Bomb Poster, by klaus69 on Dec 12, 2020 22:00:47 GMT 1, It's been a few pages, so a friendly reminder than when you're buying shit like posters and dolls, you're extremely likely to get scammed and buy a fake. You forgot that this here is about an auction house? And people who like Posters or Dolls who buy at auction houses pay a premium to NOT get scammed.

Banksy • Tesco Petrol Bomb Poster, by vad77 on Dec 12, 2020 22:38:10 GMT 1, If anyone bought Kaws Tokion on TW, I would suggest to check it as well. It is another poster similar to TPB, without purchase receipts or provenance. It is rare and most (if not all) prints circulating are fake. Photo below, I'm 99,99% sure is legit and can be used to filter most fakes. (Just note, I might be also wrong, I never had original).

It needs to become public knowledge, the silence around the Warhol pieces is also very concerning.

Don't the reverse of these have another image or something. As you say the market is saturated with fakes of these.

You don't even need fakes. These are posters. I bet the original digital file of the Banksy beyond the streets poster is printing more right now. I get if you buy a signed dali that turns out to be fake. But these are current posters and other ephemera that were produced in the last few years. The point I raise is that many fake prints are Being sold through auction houses with provenance And signatures being false so these items Of Banksy posters that were originally sold for £5 and came with no real provenance would be easy to pass through an auction house . At least it is set straight here to what to look for in genuine items So many people conduct business with auction houses expecting all to be legitimate but even Christie’s and Sotheby’s have been caught out with fake items many times over the years

Banksy beyond street is another poster with barely any provenance. Mysteriously, one was just sold on TW, for an unprecedented £8,125 🤷♂️ shortly after, every single one print available ebay, and later in most other places online, have disappeared (at the price about £400). I expect tons of them in days coming. It's unbelievable, how easy this market is manipulated. Fomo is real, I guess

Yeh but mines real as I have a train/parking ticket with the right date on it and just look at the ripples in the paper. Let’s just hope that forgers don’t figure out that dense liquid might cause a ripple effect when it drys on cheap paper or we’re all fûcked.

Banksy • Tesco Petrol Bomb Poster, by jamieb on Dec 13, 2020 14:41:40 GMT 1, You don't even need fakes. At least it is set straight here to what to look for in genuine items So many people conduct business with auction houses expecting all to be legitimate but even Christie’s and Sotheby’s have been caught out with fake items many times over the years I guess there is a difference between Christies be caught with fake items and knowingly selling fake items, having it brought you your attention and carrying on regardless.

Did not finish, Sotheby’s and Christie’s have released a press statement when caught out and compensated at the market rates if the item had increased in value and proceeded with police investigations to clear themselves of any wrongdoing and to recoup their loses
