Banksy • Tesco Petrol Bomb Poster, by Rubberneck on Jan 21, 2021 9:50:05 GMT 1, I wanted to take the opportunity to update this thread and also make some general points regarding Tate Ward. I understand people have been looking for answers and feedback here, what we have been doing is contacting and indeed speaking to the people who have been directly affected by this issue. As opposed to people who have not been directly affected and in some cases who are simply posting with the sole intention of attempting to damage Tate Ward's reputation. A good example of this is of course the "member" who started this thread in the first place. A new member with around 16 posts all on the Tate Ward thread's. Probably a competitor, gallery or maybe who has an axe to grind. I will leave others to judge the the true motivation of this and other similar members posts, but to me it is very clear. We will not explain or justify ourselves to people who create accounts purely to try to damage our reputation. On a number of occasions the police have been mentioned and bearing in mind both Tate Ward and Nick have a very clear audit trail as to where the Tesco Petrol's have come from the police were contacted at a early stage. We have spoken to Ray Swann of the Metropolitan Police Art and Antiques Unit. Obviously this is a public forum as such we cannot into full detail here. However that situation may change in the future, if/when it does I will again update members. What I can say is that we are confident that we have contacted everyone who has have been affected by the above issue. A few haven’t responded yet, we will continue to try to contact these buyers. Not all the prints sold were fake a number were genuine. All have been offered a full refund and in addition any shipping. framing and other costs involved. The Warhol's have also been mentioned and I think fall into two distinct categories: Chanel Offest Lithograph's - these were published in 1997 by Chanel in conjunction with the Andy Warhol Foundation. The total edition is unknown we have sold multiples of these and have never had any issues whatsoever apart from some members here being unaware of the backstory to these prints. We will continue to sell these works. Warhol "Unsigned/Unnumbered Proofs". The nature of running an auction house is that when you get a strong result for an item then you tend to get offered more of the same item. Which is exactly what happened here. A consignor consigned an image, it got a strong result and we were then offered others by various different consignors. These were in a number of our auctions and during this period we didn't receive any complaints or notifications that people thought they were fake. We had done our own research pre and post sale and these are openly sold by a number of auction houses and galleries. There are 2 galleries in particular - one in Israel and one in the States. They have been established for a long time and if these works are such obvious fakes then I wonder how are they allowed to still sell them. America in particular has an incredibly litigious culture and if these are indeed fake then it seems unbelievable that they continue to openly sell them. We have contacted all the consignors and the selling galleries for further information on the history/authenticity of these items but in the meantime we are going to do two things: Firstly stop selling them until we can definitively establish the authenticity of these proofs. Secondly offer anyone who has bought one a full refund if they wish. I do not believe we can do more. I also notice that people mentioned Tate Ward selling Banksy prints without COA.We have done this on a number of occasions for clients who wanted to sell quickly and for whatever reason hadn't applied for the COA yet. We took these on a case by case basis and with the situation with the delays at PC well documented we didn't see this is a issue. Major auction houses do this all the time and again if the COA is not issued we would of course give a full refund. Tate Ward selling GDP items appears to be another criticism. GDP/PC said they were not going to issue the PC certs for two years. What they didn't say is you can't/shouldn’t sell these works, they are two very different things. I am not sure how much money the people criticising us do or don't have but to some people who won items in the GDP lottery the potential sums involved are literally life changing. If they wish sell their items to improve their lives then I really don't think either they or Tate Ward should be apologists for this. I would like to point out that we don't "make up" and use multiple forum names I’ve had the same account for 14 years. But would like thank members for the positive posts on these threads. Also a thank you to the people who have taken the time to text / email us with their support. Our last three auctions at TW were our best yet - all selling well in excess of £1m with a sell through rate of over 80% each time with the highest being 88%. We don't always get it right and clearly we have made errors here, however we have tried to rectify them to the best of our ability. Over the past few years we have sold thousands and thousands of lots and the narrative that "Tate Ward selling Fakes" really is an unfair representation of what we have achieved as an auction house. I am not sure there is any auction house that hasn't had similar issues and I genuinely believe we have done our best to reach out to people and rectify these issues. Of course this won't be good enough for some people but what is important to us, is that it is good enough to the people that have been affected. I do hope this explains our position clearly and again if anyone has been affected by these issues and hasn't been contacted then please do get in touch. This closes the matter for us we will not comment any further on either of these matters. If you wish to have a dialogue with us then please email myself Danny@tateward.com or Nick@tateward.com or arrange a call. Finally we have two auctions coming up, one in Feb online with Artsy and then our next "Live" auction in March. Both are open for consignments so please get in touch with any work you are considering selling and we’ll come back to you with estimates. Thanks for the update, There are a lot of people who have posted, like myself who aren’t new profiles, haven’t been directly affected and are interested in how this develops as this affects the whole banksy secondary market, especially at the lower end. It will also affect the value of provenance I have for a couple of prints which have Tate Ward in their history. Whilst people posting using new profiles is odd and leaves questions to be asked it doesn’t give you the moral high ground. It’s not the main point is it. If for example you had come to the forum first with facts before being busted by Jamieb then that would be different. Just a reread of this thread will let anyone make up their own mind on that.
That said it’s great you are reporting progress with the arts and antiquities unit at the Met and are removing the questionable Warhol’s from sale. I look forward to updates once the police make progress.

Banksy • Tesco Petrol Bomb Poster, by jamieb on Jan 22, 2021 11:01:49 GMT 1, What I can say is that we are confident that we have contacted everyone who has have been affected by the above issue. A few haven’t responded yet, we will continue to try to contact these buyers. Not all the prints sold were fake a number were genuine. All have been offered a full refund and in addition any shipping. framing and other costs involved. Not sure I believe this when Danny sent me this is a PM a while back
Nick and I are in the process as are we of tracking down, contacting all buyers. The Tate Ward ones are on our system and any “aftersales” are listed with us so the task is in hand. Nick is also checking back through all email, whatsapp and msg’s to find all of the ones he sold privately. If you can help in any way we would appreciate it. Please encourage anyone who contacted you to get in touch with Nick or myself and begin the process of either full refund or inspection and refund.
Danny also asked me this
We’ve had a punishing schedule over the last few months and Harry has done his absolute best and he also reads the forum so for him to read that he is being given any responsibility irrespective weather its true or not is not something I’m comfortable with. The responsibility is totally with Nick and I so I’d really appreciate it if you removed that part of your post feel free to substitute me if you really feel the need to name someone.
When Nick had thrown Harry under the bus to me as the excuse that a fake had got through the checking. I think it's clear that Harry isn't the problem, none the less he was the excuse given to me by Nick.
That and that the poster I was sold was consigned by the same person who had also consigned multiple Banksy prints.
Whatspps transcript with Nick
[29/09/2020, 13:08:39] Jamie B: Even the flyer is dodgy. Colour laser copy that’s then been screwed up to look “aged”
[29/09/2020, 13:10:12] Jamie B: do you have areal one to replace it with? or just refund?
[29/09/2020, 13:11:00] Nick Clark: Jamie - we took this in from a guy that consigned a lot of works with us including a signed and US Banksy - he lives in Bristol and bearing in mind his collection I would be AMAZED if he would make any kind of “ move “ however I want you to be 100 % happy and of course I’m very happy to refund you??
[29/09/2020, 13:11:44] Nick Clark: We obviously get offered a lot of these but people want big money because of the results we are getting
[29/09/2020, 13:12:14] Nick Clark: In the meantime - pls send it back to me and I will also refund the cost of you sending it back
[29/09/2020, 13:12:15] Jamie B: I assure it's 100% fake. You said you had a few, can you look at the others?
[29/09/2020, 13:12:53] Nick Clark: They were from 3 different clients - all in future sales - they wanted more money
What I can say is that we are confident that we have contacted everyone who has have been affected by the above issue. A few haven’t responded yet, we will continue to try to contact these buyers.

Banksy • Tesco Petrol Bomb Poster, by jamieb on Jan 22, 2021 11:05:22 GMT 1, so the fake PB was refused after i refused it, said they won’t send it back cause it was “returned 2 sender” once by both of us already, now i have a fake print i need 2 dispose of.... the most creative idea wins a prize of my choosing.... aaaaaaand go! Keep it for now it may be required as evidence.
Wish I got my refund and still had my fake as I'd be off to the police with it after all the bullshit lies and excuses I have been given and documented.
At least we would get to the bottom of it all, and whoever the real perpetrators/consigners are would be exposed?

Banksy • Tesco Petrol Bomb Poster, by argylepaul on Jan 30, 2021 11:28:44 GMT 1, I bought two of these P. Bombs last July from two separate galleries, and they have turned out to be unauthentic. This all came to light because I tried to list one on ebay.
Before I send back for refunds, I want to make sure that these are fakes, so the galleries don't resell at greater value. Five people (Including a well known gallerist) have already said these are fakes and I agree with them, but can anybody confirm this please, thanks in anticipation.

Banksy • Tesco Petrol Bomb Poster, by argylepaul on Jan 30, 2021 11:46:44 GMT 1, They don't from what I have found out. I am just quoting what this gallery rep said: That they would send off to confirm the authenticity. They are maintaining that the poster they sold did not come from Tate Ward, and that it is not fake. I am not on here to discuss whether Pest Control don't issue certificates, but whether somebody could help me and confirm both posters are fakes. Thank you.

Banksy • Tesco Petrol Bomb Poster, by argylepaul on Jan 30, 2021 20:44:42 GMT 1, ..just wanted more opinion, just in case they are real posters and the galleries know they are and sell them for more. Not saying that they would do that, but where is the trust anyway, anymore?
Anyway, since two people have asked, and people do need to be made aware: I am arranging refunds with both 727 and Stowe.
727 - Emailed him, asked to see photos. He admitted straightaway that his poster was a fake, and was apologetic. Offered refund (£1200 approx) on return.
Stowe Gallery - Emailed them. They phoned back. Suggested I shouldn't get in touch with other gallery who sold me poster (727). (But I did): See above Then I also emailed Artsy and CCd Stowe in to my complaint.
Stowe called me back again. Bloke said they didn't need to apologise as the poster was 'genuine'. He said he had shown my email to 'staff at the back.' I said they must either be 'fuming' or 'sniggering.'
He accused me of being a 'keyboard warrior' and called me 'pathetic' and how they 'sell £m of art and have never had any complaints. etc'.
Told me to send the poster back (they would refund the £1575 that I paid) and they would just sell it again (For obviously more money). Got quite heated by then...
Eventually, offered me a 20% discount on anything next time, but I said I wouldn't be using them ever again. The bloke soon became extremely contrite, and said online opinion was vital to them. He realised what he had been saying.
Originally in July 2020 when I bought the poster off Stowe, it had arrived with a bad crease in top RH corner, plus lots of handling dents. Not in condition report. Spoke to Jasmine, ...not interested (Was going on holiday) and just denied it.
Posters going off on Monday (Feb 1st). Then refund. Not good from Stowe.

Banksy • Tesco Petrol Bomb Poster, by apprint on Jan 31, 2021 11:54:06 GMT 1, Unfortunately, there are many galleries, dealers, and customers affected by the purchase of those posters…
I have offered full refunds to everyone that bought one from me, posters need to be sent back to me because the sellers ask for those.
We bought a few of those posters from the same person.
I have invoices and bank transfer receipts from where those were bought, ( happy to share with buyers A,B,C,D) we sold 4 of those posters to very good customers. 1/ sold to A, and 50% have been refunded and the other 50% will be refunded when we get the poster. 2/ sold to B, and full refund + shipping have been sent and waiting for the poster to be sent to me. 3/ sold to C, full refund + shipping have been offered and waiting for bank account and poster to be sent to me. 4/ sold to D, working on it.
I am very sorry for this issue and we have tried to address this problem as best as we could.
