Art Skateboard Deck Collectors ๐น Buy & Sell, by sky8888 on Apr 2, 2014 18:11:20 GMT 1, If I'm painting a skate deck which is to be used for skating are there any paints to avoid? I know that spray paint sticks pretty well and I'd do a clear coat on top but things like Molotow pens, based on other stuff I've used them on I'm guessing may not be that durable even with a clear coat? I know things get scratched up anyway but it would be good to give it a good start
Would appreciate any advice from experience

If theres a spray shop garage near you you could ask them or go to an auto paints supplier.
The two pack will protect marker pens on paint or you could use a yacht varnish if brushing but wait for it to dry properly.

Art Skateboard Deck Collectors ๐น Buy & Sell, by Deleted on Apr 2, 2014 19:05:25 GMT 1, If the skateboard is plywood a good sand down and de grease then some auto primer should be ok. Or you can paint direct on bare wood if it's sanded down fine enough.
Theres lots of ways to do it depending on what you want to paint on it.
You can even glue a Banksy or real tenner on your deck and varnish over that.

The show is in Rottweil in Germany and proceeds will go towards building a new skate park in the town; it runs until 28 August.

Some late 70s / early 80s Powell Peralta / Vision / Natas / Santa Cruz decks have great designs and are highly sought after.
Non exhaustive but for highly collectible decks look up some early 80s Rodriguez / McGill / Caballero decks from Powell Peralta, late 80s Natas Kaupas or lesser known Zorlac Gibson decks (can't remember sure when these were from)
In the crossing the bridge between skate designs and street art world one of my personal favorites are the 2 Obey Ripper Decks...not easy to find and usually totally overpriced
They have all had reissues if you want (relatively) cheaper versions
