FAILE Large Edition Prints - Paper Monster - June?, by Rene Gagnon on Jun 8, 2011 19:02:58 GMT 1, What I don't get about the whole discussion about the image is that last time a lot of people complained about the image being too mainstream, too much popularism with a girl on rocket and so on, that the Faile weirdness was missing and now people complain about monkeys in dresses, the image being too weird.
exactly why i bought it. it is pretty amazing seeing how different peoples opinions change over time especially when you have been trolling here for years . faile could keep producing what buyers want. but last i checked we (artists) do it for ourselves and could honestly give two shites about what people think we should produce. if we create what you want we will never progress and we FAILE.

I am not buying it, got a million things waiting to go on walls. But I will regret this like tender forever! It's big and colourful and playful and light and just damn happy dammit. What's not to like

trasbash I have no personal experience but other people posting on this thread have been hit for tax before so I don't think PM mark as a gift

FAILE Large Edition Prints - Paper Monster - June?, by danielalaei on Jun 8, 2011 23:16:07 GMT 1, I remember people saying the same thing about the other old old Faile pieces, even Happens Everyday, and now you look back and everyone is killing themselves for the old stuff. I just think at this price for something its size and detail is a cant miss. Just my opinion. I know some disagree.

FAILE Large Edition Prints - Paper Monster - June?, by 1800garrett on Jun 8, 2011 23:30:02 GMT 1, I think they goofed up a bit. The paper monster releases should be reserved for their iconic images that we have come to love. I don't think it's the best format for experimental off the cuff releases like this one. Hopefully their show this month doesn't disappoint.
Your statement makes no sense. New shows, Faile.net and Perry R (their dealer) are Faile's points of sale where the new HOT/Iconic works are sold. Based on what has been sold so far on Papermonster, it looks like PM is used for revenue generation and not releasing their top knotch images and works. IMO

FAILE Large Edition Prints - Paper Monster - June?, by 1800garrett on Jun 8, 2011 23:42:47 GMT 1, Some people may not like individual Faile images, though what often goes over looked is that Faile uses these carefully crafted images in their more complex works where multipal images are torn together to make something like the image below that contains at least 4 faile images:
This is just one of many examples.

I didn't say PM should be where Faile puts their NEWEST HOTTEST works out to the public. I'm saying that PM releases usually are in the price point that most of us can afford so if they wanted to generate revenue, you'd think they would choose images that appeal to the masses not niche pieces from past shows.
Wouldn't it be nice if you could count on a nice new iconic image from Faile through PM once a year for 800$?

I think the print would look better if they cropped it this size. Theres a lot of dead space in this print, mainly because we're used to compositions which are layered 4/5 times with other imagery from Faile. This is a general problem with all PM editions tho (with the exception of Tender Forever)

FAILE Large Edition Prints - Paper Monster - June?, by Philippe on Jun 10, 2011 6:22:15 GMT 1, hey chaserawr, the only thing with say releasing a happens every day PM print would be it devalues the lower editions. One could argue it makes them more popular but it basically satiates the potential faile investor without having to step up to the plate so to speak. All in all I think it's just Faile looking out for their collectors.

Stuff like this really gets to me as the amount of times ive lost out just to end up buying the extortionate flipped print when ive managed to get enough cash for it is rediculous....Im gonna get a cuppa (tea)

I think the image is fine. If these were $300 like the flag was, these would be sold out.

One of the ideas I've seen bandied about on this board, especially after the CYW release, is that prints should cost a little more and that would deter the flippers. How much more, and whether it would work, are of course up for massive debate, but the $800 price does seem to have deterred the flippers while being still reasonably attainable. The image is, as someone pointed out earlier, a little weird and odd, not for everyone. And it's big. But if you like it (as I do) having a chance to get one was better than F5-ing your arm off for nothing.

FAILE Large Edition Prints - Paper Monster - June?, by chaturz on Jun 14, 2011 1:08:08 GMT 1, I see your point pcant if a print sold for more but below secondary market price the profit margin for flippers may not be worth it however how many of us may be in danger of being priced out of "affordable" art. Truth is even with the divided opinion, relatively high price and ongoing availability, there are still some being flipped on ebay.
I must say I do like papermonsters ordering system though!
