What? How?, by maumau93 on Oct 3, 2011 14:12:05 GMT 1, your out with your mates and you see a banksy print for £97 but you dont have the cash on you so you borrow £50 form John and £50 from Sam you then give each of them £1 back and keep one for yourself, so you now owe them £49 each. 49+49=98 +the £1 you have = 99! where is the missing pound???

What? How?, by Baby Dave on Oct 3, 2011 14:26:50 GMT 1, There is no missing pound. Misleading maths = riddle. You cannot keep keep the pound back for yourself as you wouldnt be able to give both Sam and John a £1 back initially.
The pound you add to the total of £98 cannot exist. It makes sense in my head.

What? How?, by maumau93 on Oct 3, 2011 17:04:00 GMT 1, ok so i looked it up on the internet...
There is no missing £1 You borrowed two times £49 pound = £98, and spend £97 pound, and now have an extra pound to keep for yourself. You are adding up what you owe, plus what you have which doesnt work, as there is no £100 pound. Once you give them the £1 back if you are adding up what you spent you should either add up 49 +49 = shirt + 1 change or if you are adding up what you borrowed originally that is 50+50 = shirt +3 change
