RAE BK πΊπΈ Brooklyn New York Street Artist, by italianstallion on Jun 17, 2014 16:21:21 GMT 1, Regarding the Basquiat comparisons, yeah, there's influence there. And as someone else pointed out, there's definitely some Haring and Warhol, as well. Not bad company. To me, he's one of the more interesting artists producing work right now. However, to make things clear, we must say that RAE, at least, has been influenced by art brut and art naive (as basquiat for that matter). If you want to try a precursor, is found in Jean Dubuffet, both for Rae that for Basquiat. Sometimes we would do better to better study the history of art

Does anyone have any frame ideas for these prints? I'd float mount it in a simple gallery frame, with a white mat behind it and either a black or white frame. On these, I think I'd lean towards black on the frame.
I'd also go with a frame that's about 2.5" - 3" deep and float it on foam core so it's raised up off the mat.

RAE BK πΊπΈ Brooklyn New York Street Artist, by Wearology on Jun 17, 2014 17:55:34 GMT 1, I bagged a "JUG". Does anyone else think that the days of hand finished prints by RAE for under $1,000 are soon coming to an end ? His fan base, exposure and demand for his works have definitely been skyrocketing the past few months. I have to admit that his artistic skills have grown on me. My initial thoughts of his art was that he was a poor mans Basquiat but over the years he has definitely expanded his skill set and has created his own artistic niche. RAE is a good guy personally and I am happy to see another forum member go on to be successful in the artistic community.

RAE BK πΊπΈ Brooklyn New York Street Artist, by maxf on Jun 17, 2014 17:59:03 GMT 1, I'm not sure. I kind of think he might end up making larger releases and keeping the price down - RAE seems like a decent guy and wants people to enjoy his art, not just those with deep pockets.
Saying that though, he seems to like doing good things, and I guess if you can charge $5000 for something you can do even more good with the money than $2000.
Who knows!

RAE BK πΊπΈ Brooklyn New York Street Artist, by Hairbland on Jun 17, 2014 18:14:10 GMT 1, Grabbed "Jug" at presale yesterday. Really like the "Unravel" print as well. Overall, two great prints by RAE. Regarding the Basquiat comparisons, yeah, there's influence there. And as someone else pointed out, there's definitely some Haring and Warhol, as well. Not bad company. To me, he's one of the more interesting artists producing work right now.
I'm a huge Basquiat fan and I think RAE's work stands on its own - and I realize that every time I see his street mural at Bergen and 3rd Ave in Brooklyn.

I could see larger print releases too which the prices stay reasonable but they won't be hand-finished. Maybe he'll continue to do small hand-done runs that are pricey.
His originals are continuing to go up and up and will soon be out of my range. I'm not only a fan of the work but also of how it's presented.

I think with the 2013 Bodega show (which felt so early 80's in a good way) and the Africa trip that he is doing the kind of things raising his profile quickly and unless there is a consensus amongst the gallery owners/gatekeepers that he is a talentless Basquiat ripoff I see him moving up to the next level quickly if that is what he wants.
He is on the radar and selling out his work quickly at rising prices - an established gallery will take his art to collectors and his prices will rise accordingly.

RAE BK πΊπΈ Brooklyn New York Street Artist, by samfrost on Jun 19, 2014 17:35:23 GMT 1, Bodega show was a great concept and I was fortunate enough to attend.
To me I struggle to see the true passion/meaning in many of his pieces and they all seem so similar. Also, given the fact that Brooklynite Gallery=RAE, the "crossover" seems unlikely to happen (i.e. Gagosian, Levine etc...) . Yes, the pieces look "cool"! But I struggle to find the true context and connection to these objects.
I understand there are a lot of fans out there...my two cents.

He has shown at Signal Gallery in London, Master Pelavin in NYC and one other gallery in Williamsburg, Brooklyn in the last couple of years so not sure your point makes sense.
Seems to me RAE has made a concerted effort to show outside the gallery scene recently.

RAE BK πΊπΈ Brooklyn New York Street Artist, by johnnyh on Jun 19, 2014 18:34:53 GMT 1, Think his work and concept are really spot on and he really seems to have a nice angle on things. Not sure he will sky rocket or anything but do see him just on a nice upward trend. Producing better and better interesting work and continuing to do really interesting shows that both engage and entertain people. His work is nicely priced, well produced and although really busy Steve always gives you a nice reply etc and is great to buy from so he has a good team around him as well which is both very clever and very sound.
So onwards and upwards for him I think and good luck to him as think he is doing some really good stuff and as said before it has good feeling about it

Is Steve RAE? Sorry if that's a stupid question and I just haven't picked up on it!
Agree on the other points - I've always had really great dealings with brooklynite/RAE/Steve/Chris - always really kind and fair which makes it a pleasure to spend money with them!
I'm not too fussed about values long term, although it would be nice to see huge values that just raises the issue of 'should I sell' - I'm just happy if stuff stays at the level I paid.
