I saw the field as part of the gateshead art festival many years ago. It was very moving. The figures were made by children but the concept, execution and ideas all came from Gormley. I would happily see it again....and Gormley IMO was the true artist behind it all.

Of course he was and in a way the genius was he didn't have to be present when the figures were made, the teacher had instructions about height, eyes etc. or be there when they were installed, again the gallery was left instructions about placement.

Prune sculpts 8 life-size Terracotta Daughters modeled after 8 Chinese orphan girls. The clay used in the process is the same one that was dug up over 2,000 years ago for the original warriors. For this project, the artist learns the local copyistsโ technique based off of the ancient practice.
Once the 8 original sculptures completed, the craftsmen use the molds interchangeably to create an army of 108 life-size Terracotta Daughters. The faces will then be individually personalized and signed by the craftsmen, as it was done with the ancient soldiers, to make each Terracotta Daughter unique.

Done a good few web searches, found a few advertised, but always sold out when I get in touch. Any hints or pointers on finding one would be appreciated

The works have been conceived in direct response to each unique location.
1. Saddell Bay, Mull of Kintyre, Argyll and Bute
2. South West Point, Lundy, Bristol Channel, Devon
3. Clavell Tower, Kimmeridge Bay, Dorset
4. Martello Tower, Aldeburgh, Suffolk
5. Lengthsman's Cottage, Lowsonford, Warkwickshire.
Today I took the opportunity to visit one of these sites. The Martello Tower, Aldeburgh, Suffolk which was open to the public. Here are a few pictures. I'm also going to give away one of the little limited edition booklets with details about each of the five sculptures (bottom pic). If you like what you see click the 'I like' button and i'll pick a lucky forum name out in 24 hours time.
Not sure if the at least one forum member lives close to all of the other four sites but it would be nice to get pictures of those too.
