FS: EVOL: There Goes The Neighbourhood, by Fuzzyduck121 on Dec 6, 2011 17:40:13 GMT 1, No harm done, I think anyone getting into any art scene gets an itchy trigger finger, its just the natural human urge to want o own a commodity.
Just remember those old words " buy what you like"
We've all been there and done it and I can genuinely say it took me over 5 years of buying bits and pieces that caught my eye to genuinely focus on simply purchasing what I love and paying absolutely no attention to investment potential.

I'd stand by your decision and get it framed and up. Never know, Evol might be the next big thing

FS: EVOL: There Goes The Neighbourhood, by ABC on Dec 6, 2011 23:56:24 GMT 1, It's hard to let things pass, but you can't buy everything. Only buy what you like then you can keep it. You only have to look at prices on the bay for the likes of Neate, Micallef, etc etc to realise it's not worth risking your hard earned cash. The good old days for flippers are over, now they are getting burnt. Unless they are fortunate enough to bag a Banksy that is, then there is a real nasty atmosphere nowadays surrounding a release. Great for people who can pay others to queue for them or take the whole family and wait for days, or for big time Wannabie Gangsters who muscle their way to the front of queues, that happened during the a Micallef release. The mainstream just hope for POW lottery win. I gave up trying long ago, I now look for new artists (not POW) to suppress my addiction.
I definitely wouldn't go down the CC refund route? Just zip up your man suit and accept it.

FS: EVOL: There Goes The Neighbourhood, by Deleted on Dec 7, 2011 11:18:14 GMT 1, I'm getting the impression that things are beginning to look a bit tired: another POW show at xmas to maximise income, run-of-the-mill art ( EVOL excepted ), the underlying attitude at Laz ( as detailed on another thread ).
Like ABC, i gave up trying with POW a long time ago. But that's good as far as i am concerned because I have discovered other work and other artists. And originals at that.
POW, LAZ et al are now the mainstream, and as such have become complacent. The spark has gone, replaced by a year round predictability to it all.
As this thread has illustrated, work is being bought not for appreciation but through fear of losing out, or for profit.
It's time for others to move in and throw a spanner in the works.

I third this motion though everything you say was of course inevitable from day one, because if it wasnt we would all still be hanging renaissance art on our walls.....I for one am enjoying discovering new artists outside of POW's little clique and await the next generation with baited breath.

FS: EVOL: There Goes The Neighbourhood, by des77 on Dec 7, 2011 12:09:45 GMT 1, IMO they have actually gone backwards. 3-4 years ago when for for example you could get Micallef or Faile works, their was at least variety, now everything revolves around street art and the 'cross over' artists are long gone.

FS: EVOL: There Goes The Neighbourhood, by annar50 on Dec 7, 2011 20:44:05 GMT 1, Hehe, we all started this way... These are the costs of a young flipper. One advice,... only flip the big artists like Banksy, Invader, Kaws. Start with this 3, everything they produce, will sell out in seconds and will be worth more than you invested After that you'll need a good story, my favorites are credit card, girlfriend, house movement, full wall or full sleeves... if you're in a hurry just call yourself insane, but at all costs REGRET it, to your favorite print go. Repeat that 2 times, people love to hear that. If you came that far, wait... the buyers are out there, at least drop it on eBay. Every day sees a new idiot. Use this help and you can build up a unbelievable bankroll to flip more art. But never, i'll repeat never buy Newcomers! Fare thee well Thanks for that. What's funny is - i am in the middle of a house move, credit card bill from buying art, even on the wife's card! definantly no wall space, everything either in rolls or flat stored, and... i am INSANE! I guess it boils down to experience, its steep learning curve and i appriciate and learn more about art alonng the way. Im pretty much happy with most things i've bought, i admire art, i dont just buy to flip, i have never sold anything from my collection so far as i have not been desperate for the money and have managed to not get in debt from buying art. I suppose the time will come where i will want to sell off everything but 3 or 4 pieces i really love and want to get framed and hung, and maybe put the money from the sales towards 1 new piece. I see why the more experienced members are staying well clear of some releases. Thanks for the advice, i really do appriciate it - ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)
never buy art for investment, its like stocks and shares.
it burns the fingers. only buy pieces that pleases your eye . if it goes up in value ,put it down to a added bonus

FS: EVOL: There Goes The Neighbourhood, by eschiff on Dec 8, 2011 11:17:35 GMT 1, I gave up trying long ago, I now look for new artists (not POW) to suppress my addiction. Good bit of advice. I don't know why so many people want the seal of approval from an established gallery that a piece of art is good. Maybe people lack confidence in their ability to pick out good art? Once art makes it to POW, Laz etc. you not only have to pay out a lot more money to own a piece but you also miss out on the good part of the artists journey. Why do people need to be told what to buy all the time? IMO the retailers of street art in the UK are tired and boring right now, the good times of the early-mid 2000's are over for them. They may well come back. The internet is a great tool for finding new art and google translate is a must. Exciting times in street art right now imo... if you avoid the main galleries, hype and marketing machine as all that gives me a headache. Most of the good new upcomming artists have never been mentioned on this board, and plenty of people know about them, selfish maybe but if they do get mentioned here the mass descend with รยฃ$ in their eyes and it just turns into a money game. Search out the art you like and enjoy finding it.
your love of art is so pure it's humbling ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png)
