Mr Jago Original On Canvas, by ABC on Dec 13, 2011 18:44:18 GMT 1, Good luck in you quest. I wouldn't pay ยฃ10 for a DOLK. I can't understand what the fuss is all about. IMO the images are poor, they look like photo shopped images then cut and sprayed, no thought process, maybe I'm wrong and I'm sure I will be corrected. I enjoy a vast amount of different styles but think its all bandwagon with DOLKs work.
On the flip side, I love Jago's style. So much more dynamic than DOLK IMO.

Predictions are a mugs game. Investing in anything is risky at the moment. leave your money in the Bank and it'll be worth less than you deposited, because of high inflation and low interest rates. As for bits of paper. Fuck knows. If you are thinking about them being worth less than maybe you shouldn't be buying them?.
As mentioned buy what you like, but also what you can afford. Maybe instead of buying 10 prints by an artist that need to be framed. Maybe a canvas or two(instead), by the same artist would bring your more satisfaction.
As for investment, look at what happened with Micallefs prints. Alot of people lost a lot of money speculating. Trouble is with 'Living' artists is you have no control over the number of prints they release(flooding the market etc). Dodgy game investment in living artists.
The thing I love about my collection is I look at it and enjoy it for what it is. I'm not constantly checking Ebay to see what the currrent prices are etc. Lifes too short. I have given my most loved canvases to my 4 kids. If they choose to sell and spend the money on cheap hookers or whatever when they are older thats up to them. They get them the day I die, lets hope its some time away yet .

Putting the Jago aside....
My two pence again! I cannot stress strongly enough NOT to jump in and buy 3 Dolk prints at 'current' prices.I have a strong idea why 'prices' are where they are now and it's not because he is so popular,If that were the case then the forum would be pretty busy with proud new owners
It's so very simple to manipulate a market like this, all it takes is 3 or 4 members with a couple of user names (vpn tunnels will hide i.p Addy's) and they can slowly talk prices up.The same can be said for ebay, just because feedback is left it does not mean any money actually changed hands. So take an results with a massive pinch of salt
Reading between the lines the main reason for the interest is the increasing prices as I see very little talk of the images/meaning/impact.All the sentiments I have shared in this thread have been true for months (I sold a Dolk to an overseas member who was keen to buy more and needed some help/advice/assistance, I told him all the same things that I have mentioned here)
You seem like a smart guy and if you want to invest then do simple maths and add up the edition sizes of the prints you want. If it's editions of 300 then you have 300 chances of picking one up, don't panic if ebay says ยฃ900 per print because ebay is just a tool to lure the gullible in.I would go as far as to have friendly bet with you regarding prices in 6 & 12 months time
Has Nuart posted yet? Would be interesting to hear his opinion ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)
p.s What is the best offer so far on the Jago? Any chance of some high res pics?
p.p.s Officer down prices are set to climb very sharply

No offence but this is total bs in my opinion. The prices on ebay jumped after Dolk had an solo exhibition in Oslo with media coverage and the crowd there obviously likes his work. And to Norwegian standards it's probably a bit like 'Do I go out for dinner tonight or do I buy a Dolk print?' No surprise prices have exploded. No way that a few people on ebay could have achieved that with fake auctions. His obviously not more popular on the forum but there is actually a world outside this forum. I seriously think you overestimate the power of those forum members with multiple accounts/of the forum in general. No way anything like that could have such an impact on prices.

Beg to differ here
It's a shame some of more juicy threads on the forum are no longer here then you could see for yourself
I am of course very cynical but to say it's total bs is not correct in the least. No shame in taking auction results with a pinch of salt IMHO

Total bs is probably a very wrong expression here (apologies for that) but it is a bit odd imho to see it all through the same glasses of manipulation. Just as Calum said a lot of people asking about shipping to Norway on his one Dolk auction, sold one Dolk print on ebay myself a while ago...as well to Norway.
Of course things like that happen, people do fake auctions on ebay, put the result on EB (thehighlife etc...) but this has, if even that, only a short therm effect on prices. With Dolk it seams at least to me that there is really something very different with some foundation behind the rising prices of the past month.
Wondering now who is quicker...Silky to delete my post because I mentioned thehighlife or thehighlife himself telling me some shitty kiddo stuff about hustling the hustle. ;D

Mark my words Cal, paying ยฃ950 for Grenade Lovers and Prisoner would be a financial mistake. God only knows what you're planning to pay for Zooicide. You've already made a mistake by paying ยฃ1,250 for Last Mona. Don't make the same mistake twice! Patience is key. Keep hold of the Jago until at least February and if you still feel the need to replace it with Dolk, I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised.

It seems to me that Dolk really gets way more attention these days In Norway and finally made it to the Oslo crowd. The past few years Dolk and HMP probably focused more on the European market with street art having just a very small audience in Norway itself. And with Norway being a country with a very high average income but also very high living costs, the Dolk prices of the past seemed very cheap to Norwegians. Someone from Norway posted earlier in this thread that most unknown/average artists in Oslo charge a similar price for their prints as what Dolk prints go for on ebay now. Really think the fake auction theory can be ruled out here. Also Dolk seems to get more attention in the US these days as well, don't think he played a role over there the past few years. But just my two cents really.

Really think the fake auction theory can be ruled out here. Also Dolk seems to get more attention in the US these days as well, don't think he played a role over there the past few years. But just my two cents really.

Mr Jago Original On Canvas, by manty on Dec 13, 2011 21:55:26 GMT 1, The nice thing about a few artists like jago is there is no real downside, its genuinely lovely stuff. Not fickle like most of the gear shown on here
Buy it for ยฃ850, keep it a few years, enjoy it, if you want a change sell it for the same, very doubtful you'd lose money on it.
Most other artists, especially guys that produce lots of prints is that you'll have lost 3/4 of the value in a couple of years, plus price of frame, unless of course you like hiding stuff in portfolios.
A lot of people do a quick in out with prints and do ok, maybe quite well, but is it worth the effort? I know It couldn't and wouldn't work for me.
I don't seem to like most of the stuff that can make a profit if i was so inclined :-)

Mr Jago Original On Canvas, by Deleted on Dec 13, 2011 22:10:34 GMT 1, I'm going to risk breaking cover.
Can't see the rationale behind the good folk of Norway suddenly 'waking up' to any artist purely on the basis of nationality.
Market manipulation is easier with more niche offerings. Ask James Archer who famously manipulated Skandinavian stock......

Mr Jago Original On Canvas, by sohohoho on Dec 13, 2011 22:16:29 GMT 1, curiousgeorge is right, artist's markets do get manipulated but after watching Dolk's market very closely, I whole heartedly agree with af. It's all to do with the Norwegians. I've shipped three over there in the last two months. I couldn't say no. I wouldn't mind two of them back actually, and plan to pick them up cheaper in the future. As soon as the Norwegians have finished stocking up, prices will settle. That's not to say they won't rise again though! Dolk is one of the best stencil artist's around imo. From his unique style to his subjects. He doesn't always get it right but when he does... I just wish he'd choose stronger images for print as I can't afford his OG's. He also gets up for art's sake rather than just to promote a show which is refreshing. Long live Dolk!

I'm on a lost cause on this...anyway facts don't matter. Hundreds of people manipulating Dolk prices on ebay the past months...wiz must be their godfather.
