How you cooking your turkey thread?, by Layaway Days Art Blog on Dec 22, 2011 8:27:39 GMT 1, the wife and I are eating healthier (she does not need to but I have become a bit husky). Going to cook light pizza and light chicken wings w/Frank's Red Hot Sauce for Christmas dinner. Last year was Chinese food. We like to keep it non-traditional....which I guess has become the tradition.
Happy Holidays to all

How you cooking your turkey thread?, by chichi carter on Dec 22, 2011 14:15:28 GMT 1, My family's Christmas tradition started over a decade ago when my dad decided to offer smoked turkeys to his employees as a gift. He's retired now but he still drops by Schwartz' hebrew deli every year to grab a couple of turkeys and offers me one. Schwartz is an institution here in Montreal although their claim to fame is their smoked meat. The whole bird is covered in spices (the same they use on their smoked meat) and tastes absolutely incredible. My mouth is watering just writing about it! As a matter of fact I know he's picking them up this morning and I'll be having some no later than tomorrow. Merry Christmas to all of you.

How you cooking your turkey thread?, by saint on Dec 23, 2011 11:06:30 GMT 1, I was a veggie until i hit my mid twenties and ate the most amazing plate of assorted meat ever known to man. Changed me instantly, went to macdonalds twice in a week after that and couldnt believe i had misssed out on big macs for 26 years. My mates all said they had changed the recipe and they werent as good as when we were kids tho...
Cooked a quorn roast for my bro one year at xmas, had all the trimmings (other than pigs in blankets)... was very good actually....

How you cooking your turkey thread?, by .dappy on Dec 23, 2011 21:15:29 GMT 1, Roast Potatoes : Use King Edwards (no1) or Maris Piper (No2). Par boil for 10/15mins drain water off. Leave to stand lid off for a couple of minutes. Then gently shake pot - this gives the crispy edge bites once roasted. Place in roasting tin and then i use extra virgin olive oil, a little over each one (not too much) but enough to cover the bottom of the dish before putting in the oven. Quite often add fresh Rosemary, breaking the pines to start letting the oils run out when cooking. Roast for 1hr /1hr 20min turning half way and maybe adding a bit more oil over each of the potatoes. ( I know I am not using goose fat and and I do not preheat the oil + watch out for hot oil splashes when turning - but everyone loves them! ;D)
Turkey - cover crown and legs in rashers/bacon and the cover the roasting dish in tin foil and seal at edges. You can put your own herbs/veg/wine in the bottom for the turkey to sit on or just put it on the tin!
