Just picked up

If you think about this artwork, yes the one backpackpunk bought is really nice. BUT it is the actual album cover that is really nice, thats what makes it work. OK Stinkfish has chosen wisely here! However, the ones that have not sold so quickly, are boring album covers, can you see what I mean! Although his work is nice and clever, they are just nicely painted faces in my opinion!

What do you all think?

Surely the same can be said for an artist that has a good sense for colours and how they work together or composition. A collage artist that knows which images to disregard, an artist using a gnarly piece of wood that adds to his painting. A typographer who knows his fonts ect etc.

is "One or the Other" a new artist?

Isn't he just a poor man's Dr Lakra? Exactly the same idea but without any of the finess.

Dr Lakra is a tattoo artist… Hasn't been many of them before either I suppose.

What's Dr Lakra got to do with Stinkfish's work? Lakra is a tattoo artist, he embellishes found items in a similar way true, but the similarity ends there in my opinion. Lakra's work follows his tattooing background. Calling Stink a poor mans Dr Lakra and saying his work lacks finess is a little narrow minded. Everyone is influenced by someone elses work, nothing is original in the art world. If you don't like the work fair enough but this (I seem to remember) is the second time you've made digs about the Lakra similarity for what end who knows.

I know it's an opinion - It's your opinion and you are entitled to it.
It was your comments of 'poor mans Dr Lakra', 'his work lacks finess' I didn't like, especially from yourself. It shows a 'narrow minded' opinion.
There is plenty of room for more than one artist with a similar style and I find it degrading to a relatively new artist and their work (but of course that's my opinion and interpretation of what you said).
I really couldn't care less if someone has opposing views to me. I am very open minded and have a very broad range of tastes which I am more than capable of developing on my own.
I make my own decisions in what I like or dislike, so I do take offence to your suggesting that I don't have my own point of view. You don't know me so who are you to judge?
Nuff said, I don't want this getting personal, it's all about the work.

Believe it or not, it is only the work that I am judging but for some reason you seem to have taken that very personally. You have every right to love it and cover your walls in it, I don't care. But me, I think the work is nice but contrived. That's all.

I think Stickfish is to Lakra what Dolk is to Banksy
Both can do great work but there is always going to be an "original"
Lakra is truly great, but thats why HIS magazine covers cost £6K

Don't see a lot of similarities between the artworks of Stinkfish and Dr. Lakra apart from the fact that they in parts do their artworks on similar mediums. That conclusion really can only come up if you aren't familiar with the variety of Stinkfishs work...
