'Seven Years with Banksy' & a cash cow!, by speebe on Dec 26, 2011 21:05:22 GMT 1, Just noticed that yet another book is about to be released about the elusive Mr B... All the mystique will be squeezed from this cash cow.
'Seven Years with Banksy'.
"Seven Years with Banksy" is an illuminating memoir of the world's most celebrated graffiti artist, offering an insight into his life and work through the experiences that he and the author Robert Clarke shared together during Banksy's formative years. Clarke takes us through his first encounters with Banksy, which took place in a hotel in New York in the 1990s, and candidly describes how his friendship with this young English artist developed. Along the way, readers will discover more about the ever-mysterious Banksy - what makes him tick, why he does what he does, and why he ultimately rejects fame in favour of anonymity, setting him apart from many other popular artists of our time. This is the perfect read for any Banksy or modern-art fan.

'Seven Years with Banksy' & a cash cow!, by bristolgraff on Apr 5, 2012 20:24:13 GMT 1, I've just read this book and it's not the 'kiss and tell exposee' it may seem at first glance.
It reads well and more documents the cautious personliaty of a chap just referred to as 'Robin'. The book starts with an inital meeting of 2 Bristolians in new york. Being a Bristolian myself, the Glastonbury and Ashton Court festival days and nights out on board the Thekla were interesting.
@speebe - Robert Clarke tells of where some of the orginal stunts & stencil ideas came from and BANKSYs perseverance to see these projects materialise quite often at his own financial expense. His first show at Sevenshed and the small Greenleaf bookshop on ParkRow where you could buy one of his first prints for ยฃ20
I don't think BANKSY is going to be too upset with whats be said ....
There's more about the book here for anyone interested

After cancelling my order with Amazon, I popped out and bought it from 'The Works' today for ยฃ7.99...
Home by 4pm and read the whole book within 1.5 hrs... The large font with wide margins made it easy to read in one sitting. It's an enjoyable read albeit a little disjointed because it recounts a series of meetings over a number of years... even if some of the tales are familiar the authors perspective was refreshing, as were the insights into his character traits.
I enjoyed the book because many of the locations, art works and events described were very familiar, although it doesn't give too much away.

It's well written, holds your attention and all in all it's not a bad read... It's just deceptive, the books fairly thick but due to the font size and margin size etc it dictates that n reality it'll take you just over an hour to get through.
To give you an idea of the layout...
As I say not a bad little read but like an over eager teen, it's not going to last long!

'Seven Years with Banksy' & a cash cow!, by bristolgraff on Apr 13, 2012 16:45:23 GMT 1, Life before stencils.....
The start of this book tells of Banksy's time living in NY at a Arty hoyel called the CARLTON ARMS HOTEL, where he first met the Author, Robert Clarke .. I thought i'd have a look on the web to see what I could find out about this hotel and came across this video of a bedroom painted by BANKSY in the late 1990's - looks like a scene from the jungle book "wot no stencils !!"
