A matter of individual perception of course, but each time I see Cranio's work โ his blue characters, often in trainers, based on indigenous people of Brazil โ it's shocking to me.
Whatever the artistic intent, the message I get is one of cultural condescension. Blissful, possibly oblivious, racism.
Can anyone imagine Anthony Lister, Meggs or Lush creating similar characters of Aboriginal Australians?
I can't.

I interpreted it as commentary on environmental ruin and the relationship between the indigenous culture and modernity - indigenous culture representing the natural splendor of the past. To me, he wants to return to nature, but the only way he can do so is to pay for it, since society is now driven by profit.
How can we reverse the reckless destruction of the Brazilian rainforest and the global environment? I see this as his last desperate effort to do so.
I would proudly display this piece on my wall. And it's interesting to see how similar stylistically Cranio is to Os Gemeos, both originating from Sao Paulo.
