What do you REGRET Selling, Buying or Not Buying, by swamped on Sept 9, 2010 2:36:47 GMT 1, My Beejoir Blurry Mary was a huge $500 loss, I like it but it is not worth the duratram paper its printed on. Second would be all my Dave Kinsey prints, again I like them but very tough to break even if you ever need to let one go! No I did not buy them just to make money on down the road, these are just two examples of prints that really dont hold there value at all, but great art pieces all the same to have in the collection......( we all like to break even if need be...)

What do you REGRET Selling, Buying or Not Buying, by bullet on Sept 9, 2010 2:39:22 GMT 1, this probably is not a very good theme for a thread, i thought it would be removed by now.
its basically going to turn into a 'this print is shit' and a 'no its not shit' fight.

What do you REGRET Selling, Buying or Not Buying, by Deleted on Sept 9, 2010 20:47:16 GMT 1, Fairey War by Numbers Gold - gutted, this sale was a mistake.
Neate's triptych - the longest I ever looked at it was when I met the buyer at the framer and then and there knew I'd fucked up.

What do you REGRET Selling, Buying or Not Buying, by Coach on Sept 9, 2010 22:09:39 GMT 1, I really regret having an exchange of emails with Charming Baker about a canvass purchase, and getting cold feet, and not buying. Guess the canvass would now cost about 10, maybe 15 times what I would have paid then, and I know I will now never own a CB canvass. Gutted. c

Freerange, money is the universal measure to which we all relate (well, most of us). You value and sell your art to cover the expenses and maybe make a few monetary units to allow you the ability to create the next batch with a little more freedom than the first, and so on...ad infinatum, or at least you hope, right?
On the flip side, the purchase of art must be considered carefully in relation to everything else life drops on your doorstep. One would be remiss if they bought art merely for the artist or a perceived value at the time. One should also want to look at the piece while it hangs on the wall. The combination of those factors, merged with the same factors of others (at differing ratios), create a mutually (albeit not always consistent) perceived value. Therefore we measure our buy on the common denominator, $ยฃยฅโฌ. No fault to anyone on that point.
Our lenders, grocers, merchants and landlords use the same common denominator to value their assets.
Why is it so wrong to consider art an asset or investment. Anyone living on a budget would be a flogging fool not to categorize art with their assets. Not that they would sell. Some fill in museum collections as I hope to do some day. But, I assure you, they know the value of their investment while they enjoy the art on their wall. They also carry insurance to protect that investment. That's the real world.
BTW, I'm liking some of your stuff too. Hope you're able to profit and continue. You may be on to something!

I think you've got the wrong end of what coach was saying there Freerange...
I read that as him regretting not buying the canvas as he now will never be able to afford one, as opposed to the view you took which was him thinking his canvas would have jumped in value.
