What do you REGRET Selling, Buying or Not Buying, by Ottomatik on Oct 23, 2010 14:48:41 GMT 1, otto, Aloysius is asking if that is the view from your house, and if so he wants to have a coffee in there using a Banksy mug. Crazy uncontrollable teddy... Yes, it's our roof top deck. The skyline is downtown Richmond VA. We are on the other side of the James River. We purchased on this side because the taxes are much less on property. We have a tax abatement for the first 11 years we own the condo. Which, in return gives me a nice refund check every year! (Which I spend every penny on art purchases!

What do you REGRET Selling, Buying or Not Buying, by Standard on Oct 23, 2010 21:05:59 GMT 1, Purchased a couple of prints off a well known artist and asked them to be framed, only to find that they had been cut to size to fit in the frames! The first prints I had purchased too.
Gave one away as I quickly went off it but still have one on my wall today.

I agree with this statement. It's sad over half the posts have nothing to do with the actual art.

What do you REGRET Selling, Buying or Not Buying, by thehighlife on Oct 23, 2010 23:27:11 GMT 1, Being a sheep in recovery, I regret buying all of my Mr Brainwash prints! Except one, Don't Be Cruel (pink gun). I love the image, my mom loves Elvis. Mom and I have the same birthday, and Elvis died on the same day. (16-08). Sad to say, it was the first one I let go. It's the only one I want back. Don't judge me, MBW was just starting to be noticed when I got into this crazy art collecting world. At the time he was releasing some eye catching prints, it was right after his LA show. As the months past and I discovered this forum, you guys were opening my eyes to some VERY talanted artist. Miss Bugs, Faile, D*Face, etc.... Which continues to happen, I just discovered Herakut because of photos you guys posted last week from Moniker. As I discover really gifted artist, it makes me rather angry that I wasted all the $$$ and time on Mr Brainwash. I guess the nail in the coffin was seeing his last print release. Kiss the Beatles. Honestly, WTF? Garbage, it is! (Speaking of Garbage, does anyone know when Shirley Manson (I love her) is releasing her solo album?) ....and there you have it, my shame is at your disposal. On a side note, still searching for a Herakut Permission to Paint print..please keep your eyes on the lookout for me, please guys. Also, wanted to add a photo of my latest art purchase. Was less than $15.00, and that's shipped from the UK to US. I love the mug as much as the coffee I drink out of it!
thanks for the Pink Elvis Otto!
hope all is well

What do you REGRET Selling, Buying or Not Buying, by Deleted on Jan 22, 2011 22:32:20 GMT 1, I once drank a bottle of Port Ellen Whisky with some friends that I got from my grandfather when I turned 18, he had it for a very long time and never tasted it, he hated whisky, I knew nothing about the stuff, just liked the taste.. in the meantime the distellery burned completely.. and prices went up.. drank a 500 euro bottle that evening..
well.. it was a fun evening. But in retrospect I could have saved some for a more special occasion.
or was it only art related?
David Choe city girl 76..
well.. it was a nice whisky.

What do you REGRET Selling, Buying or Not Buying, by easycraig on Jan 22, 2011 23:04:06 GMT 1, I often think about when I called my buddie and said " Lets go see Joe Strummer down at the Troubadour" - Joe was playing with the Mescaleros... and my buddie was worried he would play a bunch of stuff he had never heard..... so we passed on the show.... i then ran into a guy who went to the show and he said it was great! -he did play several clash tunes.... - so i was a bit bummed.... then of course, Joe passed away 1/2 a year later or so.... have regretted it since.. ( i was lucky enough to see the Clash 4 times... so i really cannot complain... ) -but missing that last one really hurt. ec

What do you REGRET Selling, Buying or Not Buying, by Harveyn on Jan 22, 2011 23:26:10 GMT 1, I like the non art and art posts on this thread so lets keep the subject matter open to the individuals choice.
I was very fortunate to have caught the Clash live at the Ulster Hall. Unfortunately Mick Jones had taken his leave at that stage (caught him years later with Big Audio Dynamite at the same venue). A guy whom I new back in those days made it up on stage fully expecting to be drag to one side as per all others. He happened to play in a local band and just also happened to be the absolute double of Mick Jones (a very young one). To the surprise of the guys who came to drag him away Joe Strummer waved them away and walked him to the back of the stage with his arm around his shoulder.
Then they walked to the front of the stage and proceeded to sing the most beautiful duet of Bank-robber I have ever heard. I believe to this day he still lives off this story.

What do you REGRET Selling, Buying or Not Buying, by moleman on Jan 23, 2011 0:39:28 GMT 1, I have/ had a stash of booze waiting for a special day.
A special day will come but as to will a special tipple.
Drink in jest with friends enjoy what you can as tomorrow is but another party. I just opened a special bottle 30 years old with friends we won't drink it all but in the morning it will still be a great night.
My biggest regret is thinking my friend will make it through the night, giving me the chance to say I love you one more time to him as he will be fine.
But unlike a bottle of whisky I can never take that back.
Rest in peace My friend

What do you REGRET Selling, Buying or Not Buying, by jonvespa on Jan 23, 2011 2:03:50 GMT 1, A few regrets: 1. regret not buying a banks OG at the LA show...even though (at that moment) had the cash. 2. trading my star wars figures for a bike (i was 11) 3. not buying the Invader pirate original for $1500....i had just bought another Invader OG for $1000 and thought $1500 was a bit steep at the time....its still the best Invader I've ever seen.... 4. missing Nirvana on a New Years Show in the early '90's.
A few things I am HAPPY I didn't miss: 1. Seeing The Smiths on the Meat is Murder Tour 2. Buying 4 out of my 6 Banks prints at retail 3. Buying an Invader OG 4. Getting the black four foot Kaws dissected at retail direct 5. Seeing Joe Strummer at Hootenanny a few months before he died.
Bands I have been MORE than fortunate to book in my life: 1. Mars Volta's first show ever 2. Jesus and Marychain 3. Glassjaw (three times) 4. Unbroken reunion 5. Crowded House 6. Love and Rockets 7. The Coachella 2011 secret shows (to be announced, hehe).

What do you REGRET Selling, Buying or Not Buying, by Baurmann Gallery on Jan 23, 2011 6:40:11 GMT 1, On a more serious note:
Regret and remorse are another interesting sub-topic of discourse within this larger discussion in my opinion.
Regret is something we all seem to experience, in some capacity or form. It’s usually dealing with some action(s) that caused an adverse reaction or circumstance to occur. Regret in my opinion is not always a bad thing to analyze and understand, as it can often lead to better decisions in the future and prevent bigger potential regrets (if the past mistake are learned from).
Regret can also sometimes be very emotional and/or hard to move past or on from, to which remorse sometimes seems a better classification of what is being experienced (in my opinion). This is not always the case though, as someone can have deep emotional regret over an action but it does not always means they are remorseful over it too.
It’s also not to say regret is not emotional or does not have a deep impact on people or their actions, I just think regret can sometimes be transformed more constructively & much easier than an action you are remorseful over (versus regretful).
Remorse is often felt on a much deeper emotional level (in my opinion) and sometimes is harder for people to move on from (in terms of not dwelling over 24/7) than regret, though remorse sometime is (also too) that major kick in the ass moment that causes someone to change drastically for the better or prevent an even more catastrophic event/action from potentially occurring in the future (if lessons are learned [& changes made] from that remorse).
Obviously those are very generalized statements to which points can be made both for & against, I just think Harveyn brought up a very interesting discussion on something that can occur or happen in countless forms but is simplified a bit in terms of giving the analogy of art (and/or missed art purchases), to which I think is something we can all relate on a multitude of levels.
With regret and remorse alike though, one thing I do believe strongly in is you may not be able to change yesterday, but what you do today (or in the future) as a result is something you can change.

What do you REGRET Selling, Buying or Not Buying, by Baurmann Gallery on Jan 23, 2011 6:48:32 GMT 1, On a much lighter note:
I definitely regret parking where I did the day that a hit & run driver smashed a Honda Civic (parked in front of my old Corvette) so hard it ended up on my hood about 1-2 feet from going through my front windshield…I also regret standing out there over an hour and a half (waiting for the cops to come) while everyone was pretty much stopping & taking pictures (and I think even some posting to car forums). Though looking back, it did almost look like the Banksy painting “Puppy Love” which I do find funny and a bit ironic….though I’m sure the car felt pretty violated
I also definitely regret having too much to drink the night I accidentally set a drink on MEAR’s newly finished 13 foot tall sculpture. Though I can find a little humor in the fact that at least it was not @ a museum where I could have easily been blacklisted as result…it also showed me what a good friend he always has been (in addition to the business relationship) by not killing me over that either…LOL
I don’t regret having to much to drink the opening night of Banksy’s first major show in LA though, as that at least caused me to be so drunk and just wander at the end of the show to find a bathroom somewhere when security was kicking everyone out…I ended up way in the back where they must have moved the elephant too. Though a bit surprised, I think that’s one of those times that being really drunk helps in the fact you just looked up and saw a big elephant there standing close-by in the darkness, but were trashed enough that you didn’t think too deep about it and just laughed!
On a much lighter note: I definitely regret parking where I did the day that a hit & run driver smashed a Honda Civic (parked in front of my old Corvette) so hard it ended up on my hood about 1-2 feet from going through my front windshield…I also regret standing out there over an hour and a half (waiting for the cops to come) while everyone was pretty much stopping & taking pictures (and I think even some posting to car forums). Though looking back, it did almost look like the Banksy painting “Puppy Love” which I do find funny and a bit ironic….though I’m sure the car felt pretty violated I also definitely regret having too much to drink the night I accidentally set a drink on MEAR’s newly finished 13 foot tall sculpture. Though I can find a little humor in the fact that at least it was not @ a museum where I could have easily been blacklisted as result…it also showed me what a good friend he always has been (in addition to the business relationship) by not killing me over that either…LOL I don’t regret having to much to drink the opening night of Banksy’s first major show in LA though, as that at least caused me to be so drunk and just wander at the end of the show to find a bathroom somewhere when security was kicking everyone out…I ended up way in the back where they must have moved the elephant too.
