If you like it, you like it ;D The price only comes in if you want to buy it, and you think about if you can afford it.

Cartrain ๐ฌ๐ง Tate Gallery โข Damien Hirst โข Gilbert & George, by streetgirl on May 16, 2008 16:57:32 GMT 1, Oh and I'm not looking to pick a fight or even fall into a debate here Silky, but as one of Car Trains biggest advocates, I am interested to see if you think these are worth ยฃ250.
I think that's a BIG part of the issue people have taken here. The price tag.

I think they are worth ยฃ250 no problem but thats just my opinion, if you don't like them or you think they are too much you don't need to buy them.

Cartrain ๐ฌ๐ง Tate Gallery โข Damien Hirst โข Gilbert & George, by curiousgeorge on May 16, 2008 17:05:46 GMT 1, Who said price is not of importance?? IMHO if these were priced differently (ยฃ100 bracket) then i could understand. Being priced at ยฃ250 i can see this single issue hurting the artist more than helping. Happy to eat my words if I'm wrong, and this is just my opinion, more fool the people that dismiss the opinions of 98% of people?
Does CT no longer post here? Come on Silky let him out of the box room and have internet access

I think we can fairly safely assume Silky will say, yes they're worth ยฃ250 as he obviously has a lot of time for cartrain and all the rest of it, but then what does anyone learn from that answer? Not very much I think.
It seems fairly obvious to me that the general consensus is that the price is too high; someone has already said it's the sort of price you'd expect for a unique canvas and I tend to agree with that. Being an edition of 5 makes the price something of a nonsense for the first released works of a new artist and I imagine these paintings will be available for a very long time indeed. I think we (and hopefully cartrain and those who represent him will too) learn a lot more from that than any of us will from hounding Silky to put his money where his mouth is.

Cartrain ๐ฌ๐ง Tate Gallery โข Damien Hirst โข Gilbert & George, by streetgirl on May 16, 2008 17:17:30 GMT 1, Good points seid. Wasn't meaning to come across as hounding anyone.
Just figured a lot of people were slating the quality of the images & canvas, and Silky is the only person I know with one of CT's canvasses, therefore one of few on the thread that these might appeal to.
Nail on the head that the response was only ever going to be that Silky felt they were valuable and right again that they may end up sat unsold for some time.
Also, curiousgeorge spot on here and I guess my point re earlier post on over hyping and over pricing - more damage than good to a 'breaking' artist.

Cartrain ๐ฌ๐ง Tate Gallery โข Damien Hirst โข Gilbert & George, by gozgoz on May 16, 2008 17:41:43 GMT 1, to be honest, i dont see the point of this debate though. and why there's so much controversey. Art's subjective right?
I think Beejoirs stuff are pants. and that blurry mary thing... good god whats that all about man...... i think thats waaay overpriced. I dont get any of pure evil's bunnies too. to be honest, i think if i had to choose, i'll choose CT's THE SHINING stencil over that any day.
but yeah, why the controversey? some people like it, some people dont.
