There's something quite nice about butterfly pictures. I've got a great RYCA Splat Butterfly I picked up at his London show, It's not in the same price bracket as the Hirst one but I love it : ) Cheers Ambo not got one but really like those RYCA Splat BF one of the few pieces with running paint that I like. Very nice piece
Ta very much. RYCA's a bloody nice bloke to boot and any show that has people working there dressed as Storm Troopers gets the thumbs up !

Individually, there's not really much of an artistic voice. It just feels like a wrote attempt to capitalize on some popular tropes in contemporary art.

My little bit of irk is about the hype, i.e the OPs first post, gets the back up straight away and attracts negative responses, though maybe thats intentional, and done to get people talking? Job achieved if it is :-)
let the art speak for itself. Its ok, not for me, but would brighten a room, seen much worse that sells, so I hope this sells out and funds some more stuff for the chap

The artists that tend to take the most flack are the ones that post obvious and derivative work. I think I remember an uninspired print of the Queen's head inspiring a similar discussion.
My advice, for what very little it's worth? Do something weird, something uncomfortable, something different, something wild, something that you don't even fully understand. You want to steal? Fine. Steal. But break the thing you steal. Elevate it. Ridicule it. Use an existing archetype to challenge or surprise us a little bit.
Can't you guys give the guy a break for gods sake. His trying to better himself. Is that really doing him any favors? Let's say he posts this and no one says anything. It's just a dead thread. Starling was not best pleased, but Byrne looked like the cat who had got the cream when he voiced his displeasure by email, thereby โcompletingโ her artwork. You have to feel sorry in this case for both parties. Hirst in the sense that he believes a pack of pencils if worth 800k and cartrain who could go to prison. Interesting to see what happens. Just because Hirst says a pack of pencils are Worth 800K doesn't make them worth that.
It's not like he can't go out and get another pack to replace the ones Cartrain borrowed.
