Cartrain ๐ฌ๐ง Tate Gallery โข Damien Hirst โข Gilbert & George, by a4mnt on Jul 13, 2008 15:51:10 GMT 1, I think this page is playing up as I'm obvioulsy not seeing the same pictures. pmsl
Eddie - it took me a little while but i guess this means Pissed myself laughing? ;D
Silky - clearly its easy to jump on the bandwagon where Cartrain is concerned and state that you do not like his work, but in many cases, there seem to be more people who do not appreciate his efforts than like them. Agreed people should have open minds, and generally they do on here, up to the point where they actually see art like this, then the minds are made up.
Its not a case of keeping your mind open i don't think. Most people probably make a decision about most art that they buy in a split second. I like it. I don't like it. In most cases its probably as simple as that.
Cartrain has been given solid advice on here before, mainly from people who represent his target audience, so its up to him to accept it and think outside of the box and create intesting and thought provoking art, not follow in the shadows of more talented people. But from what I've seen mostly, i think the above comment about the work he produces being barely above A level art student standards, is quite valid.
This scene is being mired with totally substandard art to fill the void while people wait for the more established artists to spark their interest and excitement in the scene again. Fair enough there is a space to be filled by lesser known and cheaper artists, like the recent Vihils release, but this scene cannot sustain every tom dick and harry computer cutting a stencil and flogging it through any one of the many substandard wannabe galleries that have now appeared. Something has to give and I fear it already has started.

Cartrain may have not been born before Sale Of The Century finished, but his homage to the Parson's legend is duly noted.
;D
PS - which gameshow did this Bush person present? Never heard of him.

The attack killed between 250 and 1,600 people, and many more were injured. What does this 'Guernica' depict? A girl in skates, a clock, a cockrel, Johnny Rotten. P L E A S E !

Good point, I must remember that art is subjective, because to me that is just a turd smeared on paper. Infact I thinks I just shit Cartrain's guernica.

Cartrain ๐ฌ๐ง Tate Gallery โข Damien Hirst โข Gilbert & George, by bmjt on Jul 13, 2008 19:56:03 GMT 1, Save your money, please. Don't support this lack of talent. If you like it, regardless of subjectivity, you need to see more art, develop a taste, open your eyes. 'Proudly presents' what a load of rubbish, there's work being given for free on this forum that is infinitley better than this tosh.
I think i've decided to become an artist, I can draw bit, got A-level art, can use photoshop and 3DSmax, boom, i'll be raking it in in no time. Bring on the etsy/cartel shop, and I will of course be welcoming all criticism. Watch this space

Cartrain ๐ฌ๐ง Tate Gallery โข Damien Hirst โข Gilbert & George, by dmandpenfold on Jul 14, 2008 10:49:03 GMT 1, 100artworks, you guys seriously need to reconsider before jumping on here with some of the drivel you write, mostly we are not the naive bunch you seem to think we are, you do cartrain no favours by insulting people's intelligence insinuating he is the next great thing by describing him along the lines of;
"The Artist is now taking the art, graffiti, and political world by storm"
or
"A true voice of the people"
Let's be real about this, the fella is obviously keen and trying to find his way as an artist but he has plenty of work to do before he is the next great thing; thrusting his greatness down our throats isn't the way to go about it...there's already plenty of cynical manipulation here, other 'galleries' take heed too, why are you bombarding us with your sales tripe....

Cartrain ๐ฌ๐ง Tate Gallery โข Damien Hirst โข Gilbert & George, by pimp on Jul 14, 2008 11:03:57 GMT 1, lets keep this priceless statement for posterity:
"East London graffiti artist Cartrain is making a big name for himself.
Cartrain first started doing graffiti when he was 12 and soon came up with his now recognisable signature. The Artist is now taking the art, graffiti, and political world by storm.
His work has started to appear across Central London. Brick Lane and Hackney, seem to be areas favoured by Cartrain. Banners carrying his distinctive emblem have been seen hanging from bridges and his stencils have been sprayed on walls opposite the Houses of Parliament. His work often depicts political figures including Tony Blair, Gordon Brown and George Bush. He also satirises the famous logos of the fast food companies KFC and McDonalds. Cartrain has stated: "People that think graffiti is a nuisance should open their eyes. Graffiti doesn't tell people to buy crap they don't want, unlike advertising. I consider my work artistic and creative, not mindless rubbish designed to annoy people.
"I find it very offensive when big companies have big adverts that make you feel small unless you buy their crap".
"Councils are very quick to tell you how much graffiti costs but not so quick to tell you how much they get from advertising."
Cartrain's profile continues to increase thanks to his high volume of work across the city and his contributions to the YouTube website. His work even appears in the music video for the song 'Glory Days' by Just Jack.
Cartrain's finest hour came when he sneaked a fake exhibit into the British Museum. He produced a plate titled Nike Footwear (sic) and hung it in the museum while a friend filmed him in the act. The information accompanying it claimed it dated from 2800 BC and showed a man wearing trendy Nike footwear, "made for pennies and sold for pounds". The museum has insisted it was removed within a few hours, but Cartrain maintains it was on display for three days. The incident received coverage on the London Tonight television programme and a clip from the show, as well as Cartrain's original footage can be seen on Youtube. The stunt was reminiscent of the Bristol graffiti artist Banksy, someone Cartrain has always admired. Cartrain states: "The British Museum idea was Banksy's. He has been a huge inspiration for me. "I've sent him a few emails showing him my work and he sent me a signed piece of his work in the post. I went to an exhibition and a similar piece, but unsigned, went for ยฃ10,000."
Cartrain wishes to continue taking sideswipes at companies and politicians. A true voice of the people."
