For those reasons - I'm out

Cartrain ๐ฌ๐ง Tate Gallery โข Damien Hirst โข Gilbert & George, by Deleted on Oct 18, 2008 12:34:31 GMT 1, I agree it is not a new idea and I've never claimed it was or tried to get credit for that but I'm sure a few more artists have painted ceilings after Michaelangelo NO?. The piece i put up was to ask if conceptual art was a case of the emperors new cloths but without the emperor?

I think he meant that the idea of putting the cardboard box fragment up was a new idea, though the method of sneaking something into a museum has obviously been used before. I don't think Banksy originated this technique by the way, as I remember seeing in the media a guy doing it about ten years or more ago with a small metal sculpture of he had made. He even had a plinth and a perspex box for the top to make it look official. Lasted a few days I think.

Read my original post higher up and you'll see how it's not a dig at you. Try not to be so defensive.

I see, I was referring to the idea of putting up work in a gallery that shouldn't be there.

Interesting, didn't know that, although I doubt Banksy was trying to capitalize on that artist's success by doing a similar thing himself.

Cartrain ๐ฌ๐ง Tate Gallery โข Damien Hirst โข Gilbert & George, by 2301 on Oct 18, 2008 15:24:45 GMT 1, Well, just because a method of getting up has been used before doesn't mean that anybody has ownership over it. For example, if I wanted to use a specific channel of communication, such as hijacking a billboard then would that be an invalid means of expression because various others have done it before? I suspect that Banksy himself has 'borrowed' a lot more ideas from other artists than most people know about.
