Cartrain π¬π§ Tate Gallery β’ Damien Hirst β’ Gilbert & George, by Heavyconsumer on Nov 7, 2008 16:19:06 GMT 1, Same old people ;D
I would have just left my original " ", were it not for your remark, which insinuates prejudice on the part of those previously posting. I'm pretty sure the last comment I made in a Cartrain related thread was a compliment on something he'd produced, but this work is just not worthy of showing to his own mother, let alone being sold by a gallery. It's an embarrasment that someone is selling this here imho!
This is a forum, so presumably what gets posted in here is open for sincere/genuine/honest/civilised comment/debate. Or at least that's my understanding - am I wrong? FWIW I agree with you 100% that unnecessary personal insults are totally out of order, but look at this work! Is there an idea, is there a concept, is there any aspect of it being remotely aesthetically pleasing, is there a clear message with which to connect/relate? Personally I have to say no on all counts. If these pieces were at a future auction, it is my belief that the postage stamps on the tubes would probably get more interest! That's how poor I think it is!

Cartrain π¬π§ Tate Gallery β’ Damien Hirst β’ Gilbert & George, by graeme501 on Nov 7, 2008 17:21:58 GMT 1, every time these collages come out, everyone always asks what they are about, and cartain comes on and refuses to explain, but says he's told some people, but they never explain either
i would love an explaination for any of these works, if cartain thinks they are good enough to be sold through a gallery, then he should give a basic explaination of what they are about
if he doesnt, im 100% convinced he doesnt know either

The odd thing is, I DO like some of what Cartrain TRYS to say with a lot of his work, I just don't think he's very successful at doing so. However, I certainly do not mean to bash the kid and I remain open-minded. I'm very happy to state I like his work, if and when I do. I'm not knocking the artist, just this god awful work he's produced (imo).

Cartrain π¬π§ Tate Gallery β’ Damien Hirst β’ Gilbert & George, by stickitup on Nov 7, 2008 18:21:31 GMT 1, anyone can be an artist....not everyone can be a good artist. what makes a good artist? i am unsure as it is subjective, however a main componant of it is how you communicate your idea - in this case via a visual means. I am unsure the visual protacol being used here is particularly successfully or appealing. However different strokes and all, its just there's a lot of people who don't find it communicates its point that well. In comparisom banksy is loved and got by nearly all as his one liners are perhaps too easily to understand, so he appeals to the mass demographic, rich, poor, intelligent, unintelligent, etc etc.

Cartrain π¬π§ Tate Gallery β’ Damien Hirst β’ Gilbert & George, by graeme501 on Nov 7, 2008 18:24:14 GMT 1, i think that good art can be in the way the message is delivered, or in the aesthetic appeal, but the best art comes with a combination of both

Cartrain π¬π§ Tate Gallery β’ Damien Hirst β’ Gilbert & George, by Daniel Silk on Nov 8, 2008 2:48:16 GMT 1, I think he meant, "Shouldn't this ONLY be on the cartrain forum". Or perhaps in the artists section of this forum.
We also have threads on the first page of this section about - Faile, Herakut, Shepard Fairey, Borf, Hush, Dolk, Guy Denning, Paul Insect, Nick Walker, Prefab, Inkie, Grafter, Coptright & Eine. What would you like done about those?

Has Cartrain grown two additional legs and a tail?
I can think of no other rational explanation for his having aged 7 years in a period of 12 months.

Cartrain π¬π§ Tate Gallery β’ Damien Hirst β’ Gilbert & George, by Wearology on Nov 8, 2008 23:25:12 GMT 1, my goal was to send the photo to Wiz not the whole forum - I am not offended that some of you guys think I am in a gallery asked someone for a pen and a large legal pad wrote on it I love Wizbong and than had another photo taken with a new sign I love Mammal - I am traveling until Monday but when I return in order to satisfy you detectives in the crowd I will take a picture of me taking the Hirst off the wall - I guess if it was in a gallery secuirity would frown upon that kind of stuff - the Valium piece is massive so there might be 2 people in the photo -
