Not many if any of these artworks will be in the show.
www.flickr.com/photos/100artworks/sets/72157606942599051/
We sold 6 100x100cm Cartrain commissions. We rented a large warehouse space for a week. I told Cartrain to make as much mess as he wanted. I think he had time to paint a extra 4 artworks.
All of the artworks are a very aggressive street style. It is surprising as he is very quiet in comparison. The artworks are made using image transfer, stencil and spray paint. He used some quite funny quotes from the newpapers.
We are having a great time helping Cartrain organize his first solo show at the moment. I can not wait to see what the contemporary art scene thinks about it.

Cartrain π¬π§ Tate Gallery β’ Damien Hirst β’ Gilbert & George, by Daniel Silk on Feb 19, 2010 17:55:03 GMT 1, I should think its pretty hard for him doing a show like this really coz its gonna be a new experience. I think a couple more shows down the line he will have opened up a bit more, and really got comfortable in the process of creating the amount of worked needed for good gallery show.

Going on Cartrain's past form I'm sure it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea but I'm sure I will leave with a smile on my face either way.

Cartrain π¬π§ Tate Gallery β’ Damien Hirst β’ Gilbert & George, by Grubster on Feb 19, 2010 20:58:17 GMT 1, i think mr train is definitely evolving but it seems his pieces need to be worked more and his spray skills need to be refined! the tags should be more free flowing and letters should be cohesive. the R's are not consistent, even the thickness and flow of the lines don't match up right! I do like some of the substance though, and I have never said that about cartrain..well see

Cartrain π¬π§ Tate Gallery β’ Damien Hirst β’ Gilbert & George, by twist65 on Feb 20, 2010 17:21:13 GMT 1, that shell 'piece' looks like the sort of thing I produce in my shed, having lots of fun but never show anyone because deep down I know it's completely pants... I can't believe anyone would seriously think about exhibiting that. And Beejoir Blood for Oil anyone?

Cartrain π¬π§ Tate Gallery β’ Damien Hirst β’ Gilbert & George, by Gentle Mental on Feb 20, 2010 19:15:25 GMT 1, his toy sculpture made me laughed so hard. (can't find the links anymore...help!)
I like cartrain more than MBW.
i like the way he builds hype all by himself. no slick PR machine, no free prints to generate crowd, nada - just him and his itchy fingers, dirty mind and thick, thick skin.
intentionally or otherwise, he puts himself up to be laughed at, just to be under the limelight, just so, one day he might be able to say "look who's laughing now??"
which is terribly admirable.

Cartrain π¬π§ Tate Gallery β’ Damien Hirst β’ Gilbert & George, by Cedric Mnich on Feb 20, 2010 23:31:12 GMT 1, Well, his art might be bad, I don't know, it's not my cup of tea and see no interest in it, but one has to admit that the kid knows how to make the buzz... Many people are interested in the character and I bet many will show up at the exhibit. Actually, if I was in UK, I would, by curiosity. If the kid ever makes progress and continues on his path of getting fame despite what I qualify "poor art", I am nonetheless happy to own a low numbered "Ransom" S&N print for future years :-) (Yeah, I bought it on pure speculation/investment when I read the buzz online about Hirst / Cartrain feud, even though I am French and living in France !). After all, I bet many people could find Banksy's art not so interesting years ago. Now, most of you are ready to spend thousands of pounds for prints. We shall see in a few years. He's young and has much time to improve his art.

Cartrain π¬π§ Tate Gallery β’ Damien Hirst β’ Gilbert & George, by bazzj04 on Feb 22, 2010 12:37:50 GMT 1, Shocking,, I just dont understand its all a bloody rip off and obvious. I see nothing here of any merit. Its just pointless. Id imagine that majority of people looking at these must be thinking to themselves i could knock this up, but dont because they know it offers nothing and are probably too aware that its shit to have a show and to try to sell it. But people buy it its madness really. Guess it says allot that people will spend there money on this. Kinda sums up our culture at the moment, people buy into anything if they are shown it enough. Celebrity obsessed culture that we are living with today. Can anyone honestly look at any of this and think that its good?. Artistic , executed well ?. Honestly?. The only reason people give this the time of day is because of all the Hirst Saga, which is madness. Buy the art for the art not for the person attempting to produce art.

Cartrain π¬π§ Tate Gallery β’ Damien Hirst β’ Gilbert & George, by twist65 on Feb 22, 2010 14:53:29 GMT 1, agreed Nigel.. I don't see anything in the new 'work' thats not still trying to exploit a very tired and uninteresting PR stunt. For Β£1,100!!! Cartrain - if you put the whole Hirst thing behind you and came out with a new body of work exloring YOUR IDEAS as an artist, showing a progression of technique and thought processes, then people might accept and support you as a young up-and-coming artist. Don't normally post negatively about artists, but for Christs sake, you're either being very badly advised or think we're all idiots...
