Ian Francis, by jam on Sept 6, 2007 8:36:59 GMT 1, I am not sure if its still around... but Red Propeller has a Francis 'girl in New York waits a long time for Merlin Bronques' listed in their resales section that may be worth a call.

Ian Francis, by BME on Sept 6, 2007 8:45:31 GMT 1, Yes, I saw that too, I think that it could go for a bit now though. I was thinking of just taking the plunge and picking up something from collectors prints instead. I love the Cat Crozny.

Ian Francis, by niceguy on Sept 6, 2007 10:29:01 GMT 1, Anyone get their prints from Blk/Mkt gallery yet? I've never bought prints from the USA before, and I've just received a letter from parcel force asking me to pay VAT ยฃ88.55, is this 'normal'. Who is the vat payable to and why? Thanks for any help.

Ian Francis, by jfury on Sept 6, 2007 10:41:08 GMT 1, VAT is normal (there are a number of ways you can try to avoid or you get luck and it slips through the net).
Essentially VAT is a tax on consumer expenditure. It is collected on business transactions, imports and acquisitions.
VAT is payable to the government on most items you purchase in the UK will have VAT added. As you purchased outside you are still liable for VAT as this has not been charged and the governmeant still needs to get there bit!...a very basic explanation but hope that helps. For more info:

Ian Francis, by niceguy on Sept 6, 2007 10:49:09 GMT 1, Thank you jfury (are you an accountant?). It was my misunderstanding that if a person/company raises an invoice for good/services and are vat registered then you mnust pay vat on that invoice. However, as blk/mkt are not vat registered (being in the usa) why should i pay them vat? My parcel was cleverly labelled as a 'gift' from them. I am actually vat registered and may decide that these are a business expense, but would rather not have to. How would i reclaim the vat and from whom?

Ian Francis, by jfury on Sept 6, 2007 10:52:29 GMT 1, When bringing goods from another country the following duties and taxes may apply:
- Customs Duty (paid when goods cross international borders, but doesn't apply where they move within a customs union like the European Union) - Excise Duty (payable on certain goods such as tobacco and alcohol) - VAT (Value Added Tax)
If you bring in goods worth more than ยฃ145, you must pay Customs Duty and VAT on the full value of the item or items that take you over that threshold. If you have several items that add up to more than ยฃ145 you should declare all of them.
Basically if you dont pay it you wont get your item.... .I have purchaed things on ebay and have got away with it then I purchased Morons and was stung for the full amount on that even though it was put down by the sender as a "gift"!...thats why the prints tend to go for cheaper if they are US based as you may or may not have to pay the relevant taxes..its a risk you take...again there are ways round it - I think theres a few threads about this.
Hope that helps.

Ian Francis, by jfury on Sept 6, 2007 10:57:38 GMT 1, no I am not, it has happened to me in the past so i fully looked into the options available. ahh right your VAT regsitered well you will need to stilll pay it but get your accountant to claim it back at the end of the quarter and you will get it back...providing you are "creative" enough with the it.

Ian Francis, by niceguy on Sept 6, 2007 10:59:18 GMT 1, I fully intend to pay it, as I want my prints! Just wondered about claiming it back, I'll give it a go. Read somewhere else on the forum that if the sender marks the item as a return (ie they purchased from you and are returning it, due to it being faulty/defective/unwanted, etc.) then you are not charged import/excise/vat. Thanks for the help tho. +1

I am sure there was a Red chopper available here yesterday (?) but looks like its gone as they put some new stuff on there today - not sure if you already know about those guys but they do have some good bits come up even though some are at a premium sometimes

Also, what was the original price of the print?
Thanks.

Pretty sure these two were only canvases and not prints (and think they were on sale at RP - thought the second one is from the BLK/MRKT show isn't it?, so maybe that one wasn't)....

Is it me or are Red Propeller not a pain in the rear end to contact? I've sent them messages, e-mails, left answerphone messages, no response. BLK/MRKT were fantastic with Ian's last show and the prints... I think I'm hoping he sticks with them!

Ian Francis, by crazyhorse on Sept 6, 2007 17:50:31 GMT 1, As I have said on another link, Lieberman Gallery www.liebermangallery.com/ also sells the same four prints as Collectors Prints. I found their service to be excellent. All four images are really top notch!

Hey, I was lucky enough to pick up a copy of the red chopper. I got mine on ebay (475 well spent!). I did though buy an Amy Allen straight from RPG which cost 275, so was thinking that they might have been similarly priced (although the chopper is bigger).
For the record the Red Chopper is simply stunning. The quality of the print is excellent and the colours striking as well. I know that there are only 25 but if you can pick one up I don't think you'll regret it.
