Don't get me wrong, I love CH and am so glad I never let my OG go but IMO there is no such thing as true painter, I do understand what you are getting at though.
His work could sit alongside some real masters and his talents would not be questioned I'm sure.

It seems to have been coming when you see his previous work, but it is too classical and becoming more so. I prefer it when his abstract work is to the fore. I agree he is an excellent artist but it is just not for me.

I agree with you about the abstract as the main focus, I prefer his work more abstract with a hint of the fine art. When the fine art takes over it appeals less, to me anyhow...

For me his work is all about the mix of the detail along with the areas that are less defined. The studies didn't seem to have this mix for me. I hope I don't have second thoughts when I see some in person

that's what i thought, why i jumped on it...the big pieces are just so impressive. Honestly, not sure i would ever hang one in my house (not that i have the room!) but the skill is just incredible.
