The latter is also one of only three publishers in addition to Other Criteria and Paragon Press (the publishing arm of Manifold). I'm pretty sure all the butterfly prints were published by Other Criteria and sold though them and through Gagosian for the Cathedral prints.

Hirst print selling galleries?, by Finsbury on Apr 6, 2012 22:45:16 GMT 1, Art republic also had some of the butterflies, i was gutted i couldnt afford these when released, two stand outs for me were one which was 'cotton white' so it just looked blank when standing straight infront of it but when you looked on the angle you could see it, and the other one which was a black butterfly, they would of looked great together but think they were either 3.6 or 3.8k on release.

I think that butterfly series and show was entitled the dead the souls and opened at the stolper gallery. I would have bought one until I did the calculation of edition size ( taking into account all the colourways) to price and realised it it was not something as viable in any sense. I wonder if Hirst and all his galleries will ever realise the greed they display with these actions and price settings is to the fundamental detriment of their product?

You make a very good point. I've been put off buying certain Hirst works due to the endless amount of similar prints/works.
I took my time and went for a few Hirsts which were slightly more unique, more limited and in my opinion nicer.
Although saying that I would love to get a Butterfly over a spot print any day and the times I have seen them in person I've always been tempted, but like you said the edition size is off putting and potentially detrimental.

(When people are buying his spots print or even worse single-spot prints, he knows there is a market!) It stops the price of his prints from going further higher. Perhaps it's not bad news for those who simply want to buy and enjoy his prints at home and not worry about the future values.

This is nothing to do with future value, simply buying at a value that is fair imo. I'm also depressed by some sort of moral coda that seems to be implied about being able to spend a large sum of money with no concerns.

Away at the moment so cannot remember the exact edition agree on the fact that there are a few about !!! This is from an edition of 45 but no idea how many colours etc. Just bought it as really liked it.

i would disagree. intill we were inside we did not know what prints were up for sale or what they looked like.

Thx Deputy Ha Ha as always the optomist. Think you might want to read again. Did not say I did not know all the details when I bought it. Said no idea now cannot remember the exact edition etc.
However yes when I bought it - thought it was stunning and still do. Not sure what's wrong with that. Is it worth more or less now than I paid for it? Did I get from gallery or auction etc? Who knows. Is it the most limited editioin etc
All very relevant but only when insuring or selling really apart from explaing to a guest at my home which may well bore them to death.
So its value to me and my wife in reality as we have no intention of selling is only aesthetically and that was my point as the main reason for buying - I thought it was really beautiful. The butterfly is really detailed the coulurs are stunning.
Disposable income I suppose most people have that on here to varying degrees. So yes it is all relevant and I am in that pile somewhere. I work hard etc have a nice place to live and l love my art and buy pieces I like.
You may be more knowledgeable than me and make better investment decisions if that is your point? Or is it about money? As I think buying something you like is the best way to buy however I will defer to your more depressing view of things.
