Damien Hirst Spot Prints, by mace on Jan 12, 2012 21:43:56 GMT 1, I am not sure if anyone actually realises or knows just how many spot prints in their various forms exist? It will far exceed anyones expectations and is the reason why recent auction results for spot prints have been as low as 2k and why places like whitecube still have spots available at the same time as these new ones are being released. The images are without a doubt wall friendly and iconic but the numbers involved means that any individual edition will never be highly sought after. They should be bought purely as aeasthetic endevour and with the knowledge that Hirst's primary prices are in the view of many above and beyond secondary at times. Great way to impress your friends who know sh*t all about art though and have seen a spot painting in a museum once ;D
Don't get why you are so ambitious to tell the ones who bought a spot print that they made the biggest mistake of their live.
It's their decision, their taste, their money.
Have a bit more respect, smartass.

Bit of a bitter comment there I certainly wouldn't say this was a mistake in anyway Anyone who buys art that they like to look at wont ever make a mistake And as I said they are pleasing to look at and inconic Not sure how you got from all that an insinuation of a huge mistake Just intrigued to see what others thoughts are on the volume and variation of this image. And let's face it love or hate him Hirst toys with the market, pushes primary pricing and will always have the last laugh No harm or offence was or is intended though and to those that buy, enjoy em!!

Very good points IMO and worth making for those who may not have thought the purchase/expense through (we've all done this on occasion)

Damien Hirst Spot Prints, by Deleted on Jan 13, 2012 0:50:26 GMT 1, Maybe it's asking too much but it would be great to see the ability to critique pieces and have open meaningful discussions on the merits of pieces of art.
People get way too defensive about information that doesn't sit right with the purchase theyve made. Surely the purpose of a discussion platform isn't merely to all say how wonderful everything is - but to warn others of mistakes they've made, lessons they've learnt, why they feel a piece isn't very good and so on and so on.
If people blindly agree with everything and just say what they like, how does anyone learn anything? Develop their opinions? Not buy something they later regret?
There's been some interesting threads here recently not least of all the adam neate and kf thread - lets see more discourse eh?
Oh and I think saying a piece of art is good because 'the artist is a top notch bloke' should be banned, niceness is not a barometer of skill Nor the quality of paper, smell of paint, number of screens
( totally inappropriate placing of this post - sorry about that )

Damien Hirst Spot Prints, by boatyyy on Jan 13, 2012 1:19:50 GMT 1, when i read or hear phrases like "merits of pieces of art" i fall out laughing... always makes me happy i bought that morons print...
always strike me as odd when folks are interested in others opinions about art to influence buying... nothing wrong w/ it, guess we're all wired differently... but could not imagine a day seriously caring about what someone else thought about a piece of art that grabbed me...
advice...never buy art with the consideration of others opinion (unless it is for pure investment purpose)... find the only useful feedback is in what meaning someone else may find in a piece of work or what they see... anyways, i ain't that bright...

But communication can only widen perspective surely?
(a discussion on the merits of morons would be interesting on a number of levels )

Apologies. Reading back it sounds like I am slating Opium.
My "barge pole" comment relates to difficulty with provenance with all the fakes about.
As you bought from source, this would be completely irrelevant.

Damien Hirst Spot Prints, by mace on Jan 13, 2012 10:53:49 GMT 1, Sorry, I don't need any advice or help. I'm fully aware of what I'm buying. I do my homework before I approach a piece.
Thanks, mace
I hate Damien Hirst. He's buying his own art at auctions. He's copying other artists' images. He's milking cash cows to death. But his series of spot prints is aesthetically hitting a very weak spot of mine. Bought a Lana.

Damien Hirst Spot Prints, by Rsyok on Jan 13, 2012 13:01:00 GMT 1, Only just caught Winter's pics nice one. Meprobramate works very well. Good to see a bit of anger against spots of colour what its all about!
A spot on review of the paintings here.. www.nytimes.com/2012/01/13/arts/design/damien-hirsts-spot-paintings-at-gagosian-in-eight-cities.html?_r=1&smid=tw-nytimes&seid=auto I didnt realise that the 'painter' was free to choose the colours working within the formula of spacing and no colour repetition ? I guess that doesnt apply with the controlled substances and colour key.(make up the rules as you go) I presume this is the first painting mentioned by student Hirst prior to the formula... pretty Urban !

Ridiculous print. Who wants Sponge Bob on the wall ? Seriously...
Mace perhaps review your previous comments on other threads before going out of your way to let me know that my comments arent helpful. At least my comment was made in the context of a larger post rather than your comment on the Kaws print above 2 weeks ago. Now lets be men about this, hush down and allow people to continue to discuss Hirst and Kaws without being petty Move along peeps.
